wait....you dont have to be a prior to earn those tridents do you?

Not back then. I don't know about now.

BTW, they're Dolphins, not Tridents. The Trident is what the SEALs wear.

I'm curious...

My class was one of the first (IIRC) to be offered opportunities like USN SCUBA school, SERE school, Airborne, and so forth for summer training.

Do they still offer these? I heard a rumor that they had stopped. True or not?

Have they added or removed anything else?

Ah, thanks for the clarification, Wheelah.

i'm sure some of you motivators are sitting there going, hoo-rah i'd never want to miss sea trials, but believe me, by april when you're starting to train for it, zero block looks quite appealing.

Question about the NASS detailers:

I remember the supe saying something along the lines of, "...These midshipmen are among the cream of the cream of the crop. They have volunteered their precious leave to do this for you guys. They have spent countless hours awake--yes, even less sleep than you've had--to make this great for you. Now who can I count on to help out with NASS next summer?..." (At which many of us began to shout and clap because it just fit the mood.)

I would love to help out (saying that a year in advance may come back and bite me), but did the supe mean that he and other admin selected some of the midshipmen to do NASS and they agreed? I mean, is it an invite-only deal, or can mids volunteer to do it?

Zaphod - Midshipmen are no longer allowed to qualify enlisted dolphins anymore. It had gottent to a point where they were almost being given away for showing up. Now it is deemed "to narrow a focus for too long a period of time". However I do believe they still get the boomer fag pin.

I definitely would not miss herdon for a deterant patrol. Thats weeks of boredom that I have already been through. Although I am sure others will think otherwise having not experienced, however it is definitely boring, and a huge burden on the crew if many groups of midshipmen have to embark and disembark in a short period of time.

I would like to know if they still do airborne, jump, sere, or scuba school, those would be fun.

"although they haven't seen fit to tell me where my cruise will be out of yet. ohh the efficient navy."

You have no idea. We got a call at my boat today telling one of the yeomen they are leaving on a flight tomorrow to go to Guam to ride a fast boat for 8-12 weeks because they are shorthanded. Now that is navy efficiency!

That's a crying shame. It really is.

I worked my butt off for mine, as did my classmates who were with me. We weren't GIVEN anything. In fact, I'm more proud of them than I am my SWO pin.

Damn. That really is sad. :(

I agree it is a shame, plus it was really ****ing off the enlisted and that is NOT what you want to do on a submarine, especially the nukes. We control all the power and the water.

the way that nass works is that you volunteer, write up a resume and an essay about why you want to do it, and send it to your company officer. he then picks who he (or she) will support. you have to have good grades and EA's to look qualified, and a good relationship with your company officer. people aren't "invited" to do it, they apply. nass detailers are usually more outgoing and hoo-rah than the rest of the class, which is both good and bad, since i think it gives a disproportioned view of what midshipmen are like (although i'm by no means saying a negative one). they call it summer scaminar for a reason: just like they pick the most upbeat and positive mids for a reason.

Summer Scaminar!

LOL! I love it! :D

Typical Mid humor! ROFL!!

I would like to do jump, and I really hope they do it still. Does anyone know what summer that would be?
