plebe summer

Ok so I know that this summer will obviously be very physically demanding but outside of that scope what should I do to prepare. I hear its a good idea to memorize the ranks of officers? Any other advice? Thanks in advance!

mission of the usna!

Dude, there's a thread just below that covers a lot of good plebe summer information so I suggest that you check that out and post any further questions you have at the end of that thread...also, you'll probably find quite a few gems if you use the search function and look through old threads about plebe summer...good luck!

yea i did read it. all they talk about is swimming and how to be physically ready. I already know how/what to do to be physically ready. Any other advice of what to study? I hear there is a book out that is good to read before you go to I Day. Anyone know the name of it?

I got myself a copy of Reef Points as soon as I got my appointment. I still sort of remember some basic knowledge from Summer Seminar, but I'll definitely aquaint myself with some of Reef Points before June 27. I don't want to know so much I look like a showboat though.

On I-day, all plebes are issued a book called reef points. They have to memorize much of the information in it. There are also other good books to read before going to Annapolis. You can find them at NavyOnline.com

benjamin-
there has been lots of discussion on how best to prep- what to study- is it even worth it-

with a bit of searching, you will no doubt find many comments arguing both sides.

Will give you the same advice I would give our Mid- this time with the advantage of hindsight:

get physically prepared. start now and be consistant. Show up in shape and ready and you will fare well; report out of shape and poorly prepared and suffer the consequences. Time well spent.

Get through your final year of high school. Ace your academics. Enjoy your senior activities and friends. You will not have a summer to speak of, so spend time with those you care about now.

The rest will fall into place as it should. You will learn what you need to learn, when you need to learn it, with your teammates. Not before, not after. WITH. You do not want to stand out.... you want to stand among... which means, you learn as a group, you experience as a group, and you fly below the radar.

you will get your reef points when you arrive, as it should be. You will get time to memorize all you need to know when you need to know it, as it should be. Don't worry about it now- use your time to get some extra running time in with friends.

If you have to memorize anything, make it your current homework. The rest will fall into place.

When is the first PFT or any other kind of PT test? Is it sometime over Plebe Summer, and if so, how long into it?

I believe the final (the second of two) summer PRT counted for the Fall PRT for plebes in the C/O 2011....this was a change from the previous few years (at least).

since no one answered my question on my thread, I will ask it on this one. When doing push-up ladders is each push-up really one push-up or is it like at NASS where each push-up was really two or even three pushups? Also, are there any other good excercises to do besides the basics (situps, pushups, pullups, and running)?

"ladders" build up in counts... so 1, then 2 consecutive, then 3 consecutive, then 4.....etc.....until you do them in reverse. Hope that helps.

As for the rest, consider adding a little weight training- especially legs and upper body; it all helps! Oh.... and swimming if you can manage it!

TXinAK - the pushups are really just 1. don't do the four count.

thank you hershey - this thread may now return to its originally intended purpose
