Stupid question coming up
So I want to major in biology no matter where I go for college. However, to be Brown-specific, is it necessary (for lack of a better word) for a prospective bio major to apply to PLME? Why would a bio major not apply to PLME?

A bio major wouldn’t necessarily apply to PLME for several reasons:
-they may not be interested in going in to medicine
-they may not be sure about going into medicine and wouldn’t want to commit this early
-they may not want to go to Brown’s med school

PLME is really for the students who are absolutely sure that they’re interested in medicine and are sure, when they’re seniors in high school, that Brown’s med school is the place for them. If this isn’t you, then you shouldn’t be applying to PLME.

Ah I see. So can a bio major not in PLME still go into medicine? If so, am I right in assuming that a PLME student would have an easier time getting into med school than the non-PLME student?

PLME is an 8 year program that guarantees admission to brown medical school at the same time you are admitted to brown undergrad.

A bio major at brown can be very successful in the med school admissions game although they probably are disadvantaged in trying to get into brown med school.

PLME in itself will not improve your chances at getting into any other med school. Students who are studious enough to get into PLME though are likely to be successful In college and thus successful in the med school admissions game later
