PLME at Brown

hi everyone!

so im applying this fall, and just have one question

brown is my top choice university, 100%. but one thing ive become interested in is their PLME (program in liberal medical education). but as it’s extremely competitive, of course theres a low chance of me getting in. but if i do apply though and they reject me from the program, does that mean that i dont have a chance to apply for brown regularly and not for the PLME, aka, am i using up my chance to apply to brown if i apply for the PLME and dont get in?

thanks!

When you apply to PLME you are also applying to Brown normally. They can reject you from PLME and take you for regular undergrad or they can reject you from both.

According to the PLME website

Students are not denied solely on the basis of the degree program. So for students who are deemed admissible to the college, the file will then be forwarded to the PLME admissions. You may be admitted to Brown but not quite make it for PLME as there is not enough space for everyone who applies.

However, are you an international student?

thank you both for your answers!

@BrownParent yes, i’m an international student from Canada

I don’t have any data but I expect that very few internationals are accepted to PLME, I know that internationals are only accepted to US med schools at a exceedingly low rate (so low it is rare?) I don’t know if being from Canada makes any difference.

One additional thing to note- if you are planning to apply early decision, Brown changed their policy regarding plme. Now, if you apply to plme ed and are rejected from plme but accepted to brown, you are still bound to attend. Don’t apply ed plme if you wouldn’t want to attend brown without plme
