PLME Essay Length - A ? especially for PLME acceptances

My PLME essay is 627 words. However, Brown wants the PLME essay response to be 500 words total. Many people have asked the age-old question of “Is this too long”. However, the Common Application gives a 500 word limit, but many people have broken it so far. For example, my friend wrote a 700 word common app essay, and he was accepted by Cornell this year through early decision. Apparently, colleges do not care that much? So basically, is the PLME word limit a reference point/highly suggested essay length?

My advice is always to keep it within 10% of the word limit. For example, for a 500 word limit, you can go up to 550 words but no more. PLME wants people who are able to follow directions. I doubt having an essay that long would keep your application from being read, but that’s significantly (25%) longer than they’re looking for. Show that you know how to follow directions.

I wrote around 545 words. I wouldn’t go over 550 and if you hit 600… you’re pushing it. They want to see you answer their questions concisely.

Alright, thanks. I’ve cut It down to 570. Hopefully it’s fine.
