PLME Essay Length

Hi:
PLME requires 2 essays, and the supplement says,
“Limit your total response to 500 words”

Does it mean both essays together = 500 words or each essay can be 500 words?
Has anyone checked with the admissions office?

Thanks,
Trish

I believe it explicitly said: “Limit your total response to 500 words (not 500 words per question).”

On the off-line version of the application, it doesn’t say “not 500 words per question”. I clarified it with a Brown alum and he told me it was 500 words per question… I should’ve been more careful, and been more skeptical of the word “total” in the instruction. Crap, hope the admission people like reading 900 word responses.

^ I’m not sure I would trust “an alum”, unless you know they have asked admissions. The rest of us alums have interpreted this to be 500 total. This question keeps coming up, so I’m going to try to check with admissions directly early next week.

Hi:
If we are slightly over 500 words, say 540 or so, do I have to cut it down to 500, or is 540 ok?

Trish

540 is probably fine. I tend to say that going 10% over the word limit is fine, but no higher.

"Is there a word limit to the PLME questions on the Supplement?

Yes - please limit your total response to both questions to 500 words (not 500 words for each question). "

If you are applying for PLME but are doing a major in bio do you do the question: If you are interested in one or more of the following academic areas at Brown, we would like to know a bit more about you for Chemistry/Computer Science/Geology/Mathematics/Physics? I just am not sure if you would have to have an interest in Chemistry for pre-med or is it talking about your desired concentration? Thank I really appreciate any help!

It is both of them together.
I wrote around 540 words. You’re fine.
