PLME essay

So, I’m just about finished with the Brown application and the PLME supplement, but I have a question about the second PLME essay

(“The Brown Medical School’s mission states that our physician graduates will ‘regard medicine as a profession, not just a trade, as a humanitarian pursuit and a unique lifetime experience.’ What is your view of a physician? How do you view your role as a future physician?”)

I know that the open-ended essay can be creative, random, etc…which I believe mine is, but my PLME essays aren’t creative at all. They’re simply straightforward and honest–will that be held against me? I don’t feel like there’s anything original I can say about what a physician can be. Does anyone have experience with this–ideally a PLME student?

If anyone wants to read my essay, I could PM it over to you.

If you PM it to me I can fwd it to my uncle (he's in med school)

"They're simply straightforward and honest--will that be held against me?"

I dont know why they would hold it agaisnt you to be honest...

I can try to read it, but i may get caught up in small details.

i would like to read it

I can help give some pointers on it bud:)

I would exercise caution before giving out my essay to others to read. I would be particularly cautious if a reader has a very low post count and all or most of those posts are offers to read essays. I realize that this is common sense and that you probably know this already, but I thought I would chime in just in case.

ya, watch out lol.

some ppl are just here to steal ideas

haha, you can PM it to me if you want....i need some more ideas for my essays..muhahahahaha

lol jk, I already sent my PLME essays in yesterday since I'm applying ED, so just PM it...I wanna see what other PLME applicants wrote about to see if mine was original ;)

thanks everyone...lol, HarvardDad's post kinda freaked me out, so I just had my mom edit it. Anyway, I sent it in last night round midnight.

Hey Shobhit, I hope you get in...and me too, of course. :) I definitely know I had trouble with that second questions---it was tough keeping it from sounding like a miss america pageant: "and I want everyone to live forever...and have world peace."

the vision of the physician question?

yea for that one, I took a different approach....and I'm really scared now that it might be a bit too....random?

my essay was straightforward but I tried to write it creatively as in the style

My view was that the 2 PLME essays are supposed to be relatively straightforward, while the "tell us about yourself" essay is the one that can be all creative.

Of course, that's just how I did it.

Does anyone know the details of how the PLME process goes?
Are you accepted to Brown first, and then do they send your file to the PLME people? And do the PLME admissions people look at your entire file (all the essays, including the "tell us..." essay, test scores, etc)???

From what I heard from the admissions officer is that you first are an applicant to Brown, in which they read your personal statements, test scores, resume, etc. If you are accepted into Brown, your application is looked at by the admissions office and they look at all your PLME stuff. Then, out of those applications they pick as the best, get sent to the PLME committee, which makes the final decisions.

Last year, for ED, about 270 people applied to PLME, about 50 or so got past the "first round", and then 20 got accepted into PLME.

where'd you get those numbers? (just curious)

and, i chose that i wouldn't be bound to Brown if I didn't get into the PLME. Do you think that's gonna be held against me?

admission officer said that the admit rate for PLME early decision last year was 7.5 %, and exactly 20 ppl got accepted into PLME, so i did some math ;) and rounded a bit.

and i'm not sure, i didn't check the box either. in my opinion, those who don't check the box want to be physicians at all costs now don't they? :)

"and i'm not sure, i didn't check the box either. in my opinion, those who don't check the box want to be physicians at all costs now don't they? :) "

I agree!
