I want an honest answer people. What are my chances?

How is your AP classes score? Your SATs are not very good, needs improving. PLME is slim with your score. your ECs are OK.

Im an international student, they don’t have AP in my school. I come from an industrial district in India. I have taken the highest course load with calculus and everything. what they teach in India is waay more advanced than AP (ive seen the Books) … SAT is a conservative estimate not sure of the result.

What about the other places?

Asking Brown students for chances at Brown when none of us know much about your school system (or the admissions process) is not a great idea. Asking Brown students for chances at other schools that we don’t attend is pointless.

I wish you luck, but I fundamentally believe that any chances we could provide are complete guesswork because we’re not admissions officers and you can’t show us anything resembling what the officers will see.

Thank You for your reply … a rough idea would be helpful to me. I just want to know if my standard stats (SATs and ECs) are in the ballpark… And people who were admitted Brown must have got into some other Good college’s too so therefore i thought they might be able to help me :)

*colleges sorry for the typo

anyone???

may I ask you why you want to be a doctor? And what do you talk about in your essays about yourself, as a future doctor? I hope you can be accepted, yet also understand that it seems to me PLME has not accepted int’l students yet. They have many asian americans though, which makes it even harder for int’l from asia to be accepted. scores are good, don’t worry about it too much. Are you applying for financial aid, BTW?

Not much of a chance without medical EC’s. They are nearly non existant in your app. Hospital work and doctor shadowing won’t cut it.

Yes i do need fin aid :(

what else could i have done??? i worked with 3 doctors and in a hospital … my town is really small and has limited facilities

^ you shouldn’t have such attitude…it sounds annoying.

There is plenty to do in medicine. Seriously, think about our society and how much stuff is focused around medicine. So many opportunities are medicine related.

To name a few:

Research

Statewide medical boards

Medical education

If you REALLY come from a small town, and ACTUALLY don’t have any opportunities, as you are saying, then why couldn’t you just start an activity? That’s the best way to show a passion.

On that note, rural medicine is some of the most fascinating aspects in the medical arena nowadays. If you come from a rural area, you would have ample opportunity to investigate this aspect.

Most importantly, your attitude is abrasive. Do you really think you have done everything you could when it comes to medicine by “shadowing 3 doctors”? Seriously? When it comes to BS/MD programs, shadowing won’t cut it. Sorry, but probably 90% of people applying will have shadowed someone. I’m guessing maybe 25-30% will have done research of some kind. Rare few have created their own medical opportunities or combined their interests in medicine to create a special product. That last group is comprised of the type of people fit for these programs.

Plus, you said that you wanted an honest answer. Now you are arguing with us about your chances. We’ll give an honest answer, but you arguing with us defeats the purpose. Next time you ask for your chances think about how you will handle the “honesty” of our replies.

i am sorry if u guys found my attitude abrasive … i just wanted to tell u about my situation… it meant nothing else …to the points you mentioned
research - i have done one on AIDS but its practically non existent here my town does not have a single college
statewide medical boards - ?
Medical education - i do have some experience … 16 hours a week to get into med school in my country so ill definitely include that thank you so much
i did start a blood donation camp in my school i will include that too if you guys think itll help
rural medicine - i have worked in camps for eye surgeries, heart disease and HIV/AIDS
i never meant to argue … i was seeking advice and i would like to thank you for your honest replies
@ginnykatherine - thank you for you reply … my essays are all about why i want to be a doctor …

Thank you all for helping me with my application

@chemwz - u have amazing sats … are u a Junior or a senior currently???

I’m a senior. I am not sure what SATs you are talking about…the last time I posted a chances thread was like 2 years ago, my SAT was 2050. Now I have 2280. My ECs and stats have improved significantly since then.

No problem on the advice. Sometimes it’s just annoying seeing these posts, and I vent…sorry. Your EC’s in the post above seem very nice. Do you have any other questions?

Stats  … typo

ill let u know if i do… thanx
