PLME fall 2011 Chances?

Chemwz, your posts earlier just made me a little sad, because they showed what’s worst about premeds, and what the entire PLME program is trying to avoid. You told medicalaspirant that he/she didn’t have “much of a chance without medical EC’s.” Are you a PLME admissions officer? I’m not, but I’m a current PLME.

I was accepted into the program a year ago with absolutely no medical extra-curriculars. I never shadowed a doctor, had never volunteered in a hospital, and had done practically no lab work. It’s great that you’ve done these things, but there’s absolutely no need to go hurting other people when you really have no clue about their chances. The backbone behind the PLME program is a community of people who truly care about medicine and about their patients, and I find it hard to believe that you would care for a patient when you can’t even empathize with someone on the internet.

@Bruno14 - Congrats On being a PLME Student
Could you please chance me on the PLME … I have wanted to get into it since the 8th Grade!!!

BTW my October SAT 1 scores just came out
CR-780
Math-740
Writing - 620 :frowning: :frowning: Essay -9 (Very Hurried)

Is it even close to the Brown Standard?
Some of my friends who are in the US tld me that writing is not too important

Sld i take it again in December?

Thank You again

your stats are good enough, all you need now is luck and patience. Well, just submit it and hope for the best!

Bruno14, Congratulations on making it to PLME. Can you please post your stats and hooks and relevant details?. Thanks.

@Bruno14 - Could u please post your stats and hooks ???
Thank You

Wow guys. I don’t generally chance people, because I’m clearly not an admissions committee, and I’m seeing such a tiny piece of your application. Without the essays, I get no idea of who you really are.

I will, however, post my stats and I’m free to answer any questions about Brown and PLME that I can.

Stats:

Spanish: 760
Bio M: 790

BC Calc: 5
Spanish Lang: 5

Feel free to ask me for any information I may have left out.

How long should the essays be ??? my 1st PLME essay is 1200 words and 2nd is 650 … is that ok??? …
thank you for posting the stats … btw do u think that i need to take the SAT again? my scores are a couple of posts up

@Bruno - Should i take my SATs again?

Medicalaspirant: I can’t tell you what to do. Please talk to your high school counselor or someone else like that about your SAT scores.

bump!!!

please tell me what u think!!!

@chemwz: Excuse me for my attitude but I think you are the one being abrasive. I apologize if I’m making false or hasty assumptions but I will assume that you have a totally different background than medicalaspirant, particularly where you grew up. It’s unfair of you to assume that s/he hasn’t tried his/her best. Maybe s/he “REALLY” is from a small town and “ACTUALLY” has no opportunities, and maybe s/he has tried to start activities - from his later post, it seems that s/he did.
And when s/he asks “what else could I have done?”, I’m sure s/he’s actually asking it, not being pert or arguing. Some people geniunely want to improve, and being condescending doesn’t help any of that.

And @medicalaspirant, I think when it comes down it, if you are truly passionate about medicine and know that PLME is the right program for you, that will show through in your essays.

thank you! … i think my essays are pretty good … they all centre around my ambition of becoming a doctor … !

@ayzhang: I already apologized for any rudeness to the OP. How could I have known if the OP was being argumentative or wanting to improve? Sorry for any abrasiveness - but it’s just hard to tell on the internet. Plus, it’s not like anything more could be done at t-minus 1 month until admissions deadlines…so I interpreted it the first way. Clearly, I have seen from the later posts that the OP is not like that, but initially, there was no way to tell. I think I have already cleared up any possible rudeness.

And to tell you the truth (and this is NOT being abrasive, because I know I will be accused), when I see the OP post like 8 "BUMPPPPPPPPP!!!"s…it’s pretty annoying. What does (s)he want me to say? If I go against their beliefs, I get responses like yours, ayzhang, who criticize me for my abrasiveness. If I go along with the whole positive reinforcement thing, what does that accomplish? So I told my idea of the truth. Sorry if it is harsh, but it’s just my opinion. If you thought it was too abrasive, I already apologized on numerous occasions.

Bump!!!

Medicalaspirant (and I guess ayzhang),

I want you to think about what you’re doing right now and have been doing for the last week (about). You have constantly been saying “BUMP!” or “PLEASE CHANCE ME” or the like.

Now let’s think about it in light of what you want to be - a doctor. When a doctor is diagnosing a patient, they won’t have a week and tens of times to check their decision. They won’t be able to say “So, what do you think of my treatment???”. And most importantly, they won’t be able to disagree with a colleague and question why they disagreed. Because in medicine, you are supposed to be able to make good decisions based off of evidence, not positive-reinforcement opinions. Sure, there are the emotional situations - and those decisions are based off of evidence that doctors have observed.

Just think about it. The immaturity you are displaying in this post, not to mention the Rice/Baylor post (in which I counted 5 consecutive BUMPs), is something to be aware of. So when I say that you are doubtful to get into these programs, I want people to know other things upon which I have based my decision.

@chemwz - Im sorry to say that u think im immature man u have absolutely no idea of who i really am so stop reading into things … you have ur counsellor and ur dad (who i guess is a brown something) and other ppl to advice you … and i have u guys … u really helped me with my app and i thank you for that but i want other people’s opinion too like after you bruno and others commented and i think bruno’s comment helped both of us … and thats y i bump … to maybe put a little extra something for my regular decision apps … im not dealing with lives here … infact if you want to look at it analogically i want to get ‘trained right’ for the whole admission things and not take a fast ill informed decision because u’ll agree that both of us are a minimum of 8 years away from diagnosing a patient that we dont have a long time to think about. and i hope that as a doctor ull take the time to see your patients and not make split second diagnosis’s all the time. also doctors tend to discuss patients with other doctors before and after making a diagnosis. So thanks for your criticism on my app it has really helped me. But please look the other way when i bump my pages because i am a patient who simply wants a second opinion.

I have really low SAT’s, but tons of EC’s and I think my essays are genuine. Do you PLME Admission officers take scores super serious?
