PLME / Med school preparedness

<p>First I’d like to thank everyone on this forum for all the useful information they have shared. I’ve been lurking for a few months now and finally go the nerve to actually post a question.</p>

<p>My DD has decided to attend Brown’s PLME program, pursuing a neuroscience undergrad degree. I was wondering if anyone could share how the program prepares it’s students for med school. Will it prepare them for the rigor and long hours of med school? Granted she has a guaranteed spot at Warren Alpert, but will she be able to keep pace with the other med school students who get in the traditional way?
I guess I would also like to hear opinions on Warren Alpert as a med school, I realize they have a good match record but are there statistics on the match record of the plme students? How about research? Do plme students get tired of being in the same place for so long? Should she continue keep her options open to apply out if necessary? If so what would she need to do? </p>

<p>There's no difference whatsoever between the PLME undergraduate experience and any other pre-med student other than they have access to separate funding to do research as undergraduates.</p>

<p>Your child will be as prepared as they would be going through any other undergraduate program.</p>

<p>Thank you. Wow I didn't even know they had separate PLME funding for research. I guess I should do more googling about PLME.

<p>Congrats . . . don't worry, your daughter will be well prepared for medical school. PLME is one of the best combined med programs out there.</p>

<p>It seems as if every person in PLME who posts on CC is a neuroscience major or is interested in neuroscience.</p>

<p>Well, that just goes to show the strength of Brown's Neuro dept. My son, a freshman PLME neuro major, is just finishing up his 2nd & 3rd neuro classes, and he's really happy he chose Brown.</p>
