PLME myth or reality

Is it true that to have your PLME application even considered by the board, you must first be accepted into Brown University through the normal admisssions people first?

Well, both programs need to accept you, so the order shouldn’t matter…

Because PLME is so competitive, if you’re going to get into PLME, I’d imagine you’d also be a stronger than average candidate for regular admission.

BTW another question:

Do you think unchecking the box that says “you do not want to be bound to Brown ED if ur not accepted PLME” will look bad to Brown and making admissions to PLME harder?

i’ve heard that it does. yes.

No. It’s standard procedure at Hopkins, for example, to release all BME rejects from their ED obligations.

They say it doesn’t hurt very much but to be honest, if I were an admissions counselor I would feel negatively about that kind of thing, which I think is natural.

Since the process for the RISD-Brown combined degree is that first you have to get into both schools through normal admissions before a special committee considers you for joint admissions, I’d imagine that the rumor is true-- first you have to get into Brown, then they evaluate you for PLME.
