anyone get into PLME?

I did!
But sadly I doubt that I’ll be going to Brown. My financial aid was pretty terrible ~

I got in!
I’m between PLME and Georgetown. I love Georgetown and have lived in Providence my whole life, but at the same time its so hard to pass up PLME.

For anyone making a PLME decision, feel free to ask me questions! I’m a current PLME freshman.

@ peachesncream Where are you going instead?

I got plme! Still going to HPME, but still pretty pumped about it :)

@advertisinggal either WashU or Princeton, I was kinda bummed when I saw the aid reward. Especially since the plme has been my dream program since forever. But I’ll live, good luck to you though. Are you for sure going to Brown?

If you are premed, go to washu. It is the best research school for premeds. And, there are so many affiliated hospitals that provide opportunities for undergrad research. Go to WashU

Does Brown match FA from other Ivys? Is your Princeton aid good?

My Princeton aid is like 7,000$ dollars better than Brown. Do you think the financial aid people at Brown would reconsider?

Yes, definitely. My brother had his aid package increased after showing them what he got from Georgetown. It’s worth a try, especially since it’s your dream program!

One thing very few people ever seem to talk about is the cost of applying to medical school (something you would avoid with PLME). Most of the good schools have secondary application fees of $65-100 on top of the I believe $30 you had to pay to have AMCAS send your primary app to them (don’t really remember when I applied last year). This is of course after you dropped a couple hundered bucks just to take the MCAT, and a test prep course at kaplan is almost $2000. Then you will hopefully get lots of interviews and need to travel to them on your own dime. Applying to medical school is easily a several thousand dollar adventure.

So I sent in an appeal and I think I have a good chance of being able to go to Brown and the PLME! Yayyyyyyyy!!!

I actually have a question about PLME. To me it seems perfect, but are there any disadvantages of it?

the only disadvantage I can think of is that you will be in the same city for 8 years.
Personally, that won’t bother me. But to some, it may not be very appealing.

That’s the only thing I can think of. The people that I know that are in PLME absolutely LOVE it.

As a current PLME, I can’t think of any disadvantages at all, except that you might get double-takes if you tell people you’re a PLME. I usually avoid the topic in general conversation and just tell people I’m a pre-med. Just avoids jealousy issues.

Besides that, PLME is just amazing. Look forward to seeing you all next year! A bunch of my friend will be your Meiklejohn advisors.

@bruno14 haha, same here. When I was at ADOCH I got a bunch of double takes when i talked to a bunch of freshman and prefrosh as well. Just out of curiosity, what do you think you’ll concentrate in?
Also where did that name Meiklejohn from?

I’m planning on double-concentrating in Music and Human Bio.

Meiklejohn comes from here:

My s has been bombarded with phone calls, e-mails, webchats from all other Ivies to convince him to come to their school. Letters from alumni, calls from current students, students in the programs to ask if he has any questions. Nothing from PLME except a sheet with names of current students to contact. :(

Advertisinggal:
I don’t know really what you mean by your post. Are you complaining that Brown hasn’t “bombarded” you with calls? Will your son really attend the school that contacts him the most? I doubt it. Your son will most likely attend the school that is the best fit for him. If that is Brown and the PLME program, we’d be happy to have him. However, if Brown isn’t the right place for him, then none of us here would push him to attend Brown. He should attend the place where he will be the most happy.

If he’d like to contact a current student, students on the list will be happy to talk to him about PLME. I’m here as well - you can PM me for better contact information.

Haha, thanks bruno14. So how is your first year as a PLME student? Probably not as intense as the following ones, but are there a lot of activities or anything special that you’ve done so far this year?

If and hopefully when I go to Brown, I plan on studying cognitive neuroscience and a language. My first pick would have been Korean, but next year they aren’t offering beginners courses. Anyhow do you think it would be possible to double major in cog. sci. and possibly eastern studies, go abroad for a semester and fulfill the requirements of PLME? .

Are you thinking of double majoring?
