on the plme site, it says
“By combining the open curriculum concept of Brown (The College) and the competency-based curriculum concept of The Warren Alpert Medical School, the PLME encourages students of medicine to pursue in depth their interests in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences even as they prepare for their careers as physicians.”
Does that mean I can’t put mathematics as my 1st choice major if I want to apply to the plme program?

oh yea for sure. u can always do a side major /minor . but wut i meant is that the plme program itself doesnt offer or pertain to a math major wutsoever. its for med

I think it’s just saying that PLME offers a great deal of flexibility in the undergrad and med school programs so a student can develop/follow their interests, WHATEVER they may be. You can certainly be a math major and perhaps take a load of dance or egyptology or anthropology classes. You can opt to never take a history class. It doesn’t matter. It’s solely up to you. BUT you DO need to take all the requirements for a math major and whatever courses are required for PLME. You can find out what they are online so you’ll see how many classes you’d have left to choose on your own. You can find that info on Brown’s website.

This is different from some schools’ curriculums with a strong core so after fulfilling all your requirements for your major, and general ed/distribution credits and meeting all the requirements for med school admission, a student often doesn’t have much time or flexibility to take as many electives as PLME students.
