my GPA (Unweighted) is relatively low: 3.5/4.0
(for Junior and Senior Year Combined)
Here are my STATS
SAT: 1510/ 2270 M/CR/W = 800/710/760
SAT Subject Test: USH/bio/Math2 = 800/800/780
ACT: 36
Junior year GPA: 3.8/4.0
Freshman/Sophomore GPA: Not sure because I was from another country which does not use GPA But I guess around 3.7
Senior GPA: 3.5-3.6
Senior Course Load: AP Gov/Spansih 2H/AP Bio/AP Physics B/AP Calculus BC/AP English Lit = A/A/A+/B or C+/B or C+/B or C+ ( not sure at the moment)
E/C: International Forensics Tournament (3rd Place)/ Excellent Rating at Music assessment for piano/ State Netball Player/ 2nd in Law Mock Trial (11)/State, Science Fair/National Level Science Competition ( Back in my home country)/ taekwondo ( black belt)/ Badminton ( Played at State level but did not win)
Community service: Unicef Volunteer (summer) about 75+ Hours/ Cleveland Clinic volunteer(75+ Hours)/ Home for the special Kids (200+)/ Tutor Rural Malaysian Kids ( 300+)/Other school Volunteer services, Mercy Malaysia during the Burma Cyclone (10), Played the piano for old folks at a home nearby my house (9, 10)
Ethnicity: Ceylonese ( Sri lankan)

Internsip: Cleveland Clinic ( one month in the neurosurgery/ cardiothoracicsurgery department)

Essay: I think it is good. I talked about how I love both Science and Humanities and how it shaped my character etc. Supplement essay: Talked about my experience at Government class and how I always have different views and opinions on issues compared to my peers.
RECs: Teacher and counselor RECs are great.

So the discrepancy in my transcript i.e. the possible C is due to me being sick most of the first quarter of my senior year (bumpp) but it only affected some not all, i.e. The Physics, CAlc BC and I think AP English

Another Information: You can see that most of my community service is when I was in my 10th and 9th grade, because in malaysia, the 9th and 10th grade is like the junior year here, because the last year of high school in malaysia is devoted to studying for the major exam called SPM, so most of the students do their community service, and ECs. I do not know whether I need to explain that to the colleges or Yale.

I was just wondering what are my chances at those universities.** Pls do be honest. I really want to hear from different people what my chances are. Thank you**

Harvard - Low reach
Upenn - Low reach
UChicago - Match
Duke - Match
UMiami - Not sure

That GPA is really going to hurt you =/ A very small percentage of the top schools accept people with low GPA but hopefully your ACT/SAT will make up for it.

Hey, so I think you have a really interesting background and your application sounds like itll kinda tell a story (its cliche…but thats what the schools say they “want”)…and grades and test scores are really solid. a 36 on the act cant hurt hahaha.
id say…
harvard=reach…its always a reach, realistically. so much is random in its admissions.
U Chicago= high match…theres definitely potential there. especially if your essays were good. they like that.
Duke/Penn=i think you have a good shot. match to high match. theres still tons of competitiveness and randomness in the admissions but i think you definitely have a shot.
U Miami=in…unless theres a fluke at least. you should have it.

UChic, Duke, Miami- Match
UPenn- High match, since it’s an ivy it’s relatively hard to chance
Harvard- Reach, you know it’s a reach for everybody.
your GPA isn’t bad especially unweighted.

You have a shot at all of them, basically schools like this are a lottery. You have all of the ingredients, like others said, its all about waiting now. The versitile ECs are great! Those are the kinds of things that will get you into these types of schools. The only reaches I think are harvard! But, then again, its a reach for everyone! Good Luck!

Harvard - reach
U Penn - reach
U Chicago - match
U Miami - match
Duke - low reach

Your test scores are awesome! That will really help you at all the schools you are applying to, but your GPA sort of negates those scores. Nevertheless, it is a great GPA it just isn’t really perfect like Harvard applicants are expected to be. Good Luck!
