Work Exp: none

Recs: 1 teacher, very good, but counselor & 1 teacher, maybe just good to above average only (not outstanding, im a very quiet guy)

Essays: good only, possibly up to above average to very good. not excellent or outstanding. im not an inherently good writer.

i think i'll appear/come across as a regular, nice simple guy but who is also good, tries my best, diligent and responsible. just my opinion.

thanks in advance to those who would to chance me.

UCB and UCLA are matches for you. Your scores are good but may be a little low for some places. Everywhere else is definitely in the reach range. Good luck!! Chance me?? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1057649-wheel-chance-what-goes-around-comes-around.html

HYPS accepts about 20% of the valedictorians who apply, about 20% of those with 800s verbal and about 25% of those with 800s in math.

In other words, they routinely say no to the large majority of people like yourself who are highly qualified and capable of doing the work.

In otherwords, the vast majoprity of those who apply HYPS facfe long odds . . that’s just reality.

Which is why one needs to Love Thy Safeties.

Good luck!!!

I would be concerned by the fact that you are relying on your mediocre skills in writing for personal statement. Honestly, you may receive (not saying you will, but very likely) rejections from many schools in that list because of your SAT score. I wish you had considered personal statement more because for some students with your stats, that’s what make or break their application.

THANKS MUCH for all of your honest opinions! and i agree. i realize how HPYSM are really reach for me. i would be happy with UCLA or UCB, but would be super happy if i get accepted into these reach ones.

yes, PrinceMuzic, i will chance back.

calling on others too ~ pls chance me more!!! i would love to hear your opinions/feedbacks.

Chances are pretty to very low for HYP such

Your test scores are kinda low. To have a realistic chance, you need around a 2250 if you’re unhooked.

Your test scores are the weakest part of you application; they are low for a non-athletic recruit Asian to break in to HYP, etc. But there is hope. Good luck.

Indeed there is hope, although it seems like my chances are just miracles. Now, I’m nervous if I’ll make it to UCB or UCLA. Maybe I dreamt too far, too fast, so time for reality check. I had a late start. I came from a really very weak grade/middle sch. Didn’t learn much on Sci then - didn’t know anything about Bio, Chem, Geom, even just the basics. Same thing with Eng & just abt everything else. Then I went to competitive HS - not even knowing parts of speech. Regular subjs – except for Geom. Generally, I was a nobody. Maybe I wasn’t even in top 50 in freshman yr in a class of approx 260. Met all my good classmates. I was sort of upset that I knew almost nothing compared to them, but I always knew it wasn’t my fault. I believed in myself & knew I can be just as good. I was motivated. I worked really, really hard. Rejected in APBio as soph, so I self studied and got 5 in AP exam. Rejected in Hnrs Eng so I enrolled in free online Eng course to catch up. Also denied in SciOly then. I was good in Math so I got in Alg2H & Mathletes. I joined more clubs, added extra subj (YrBk), etc. At the end of soph yr, I had straight As, got into NHS, CSF. I enrolled USHist classes in CC in summer before my jr yr to be able to pack 5 Hnrs/AP classes that I got into. At the end of my jr yr, I’m rank 5 (or 6) with a 4.425 gpa, got AP Scholar with Honor, & a UC-ELC top 4% recipient. Now, I have 6 APs as sr. Now, Im also a Team Ldr in SciOly. So I am really happy & proud of myself, considering where I came fr & where I am at now. True, I may need more catching up to do, & I now realize that I may not make it far enough to get into HPYSM, JH, etc. But I’ll keep working hard, keep aiming & keep dreaming.

Oh, I should have done this for my essay:) LOL.

Anyway, please keep chancing me!!! I value all honest and objective feedbacks. I’ll chance back too, if requested.

bump… maybe some people can chance me too. im very nervous but hopeful too.
