pls chance me to NYU/Boston Uni - transfer ( ill chance back)

Hey all, thanks so much for reading this.

So this will get confusing but here I go,

HS GPA: ~3.6 (unweighted)- in top 100 high schools in nation - class of 2012
<4-APChemistry>
<lots of="" ec="" and="" positions="">
<1850 SAT..>
College GPA: 2.9 Chemistry major (at an average university) attended for 2 semesters
College GPA: 3.8 Architecture major (community college) - 1 semester</lots>

I want to pursue Architecture/urban design now that I finally know what I want to do. My average school is a science-related school and they did not have architecture major offered so that is why I jumped down to a community college, to "explore".

I want to transfer to NYU, UC's, Boston, Northeastern.. just to name a few

I know that my GPA is very low at the average university, so I am thinking whether to go back there this spring 2014- because we have a system that you can retake classes and it will replace your old GPA. However it will be shown in the transcript.

I know I can lift my GPA if i retake the only 2C's I got freshman year to a 3.6, if i get straight A's this semester. ( 2 retakes and 2 new classes)

Should I go back to average university to lift my GPA for better chances? ( or would college not care, and look more at the current institution I am in)

Should I just attend the community college and get a really good GPA there and transfer from there?

I think it will be really tough for you to transfer into BC or NYU no matter what you do. I’d try to go back to the more well-respected university and get as good of grades as possible.

Hi thanks for replying,
can I ask you why it would be tough?

I want to at least hope.

Hey I think you have a decent chance but your SAT might pull u down. Ur 1st gpa also may make things pretty difficult but ur second gpa might make up for some of it. If i were u id go back to the avg university and try bumping up the gpa rather than going to comm. college. I also agree w soccerrox because transferring into schools like BU and NYU is very tough but still, its possible!

also for EC’s, im pretty sure the quality would matter more than quantity for the schools ur targeting

thank you @frogandtoad152 !:slight_smile: I hope to transfer in as a junior so the SAT scores wont affect me poorly :frowning:
I have been working hard and I’m going to work even harder to get into the schools I really want to go to
Do you think I should take general education classes so that my credits can transfer in as a junior?

P.S I’ve talked to University of Maryland College Park officials and they have a hard time giving me an answer as well haha

I would stay at the CC. IMO It looks like you were struggling at the “average” university so adcoms might wonder whether or not you could handle the rigor of their school. However, you went to a CC and your GPA had a MAJOR change. Now you could twist that as “I stopped being a chem major because I realized that’s not what I wanted…I didn’t enjoy any of my classes. I went to a CC to not only save money but really find what I want. Architecture is my passion and I enjoy the coursework not because The difficulty changed or that I happen to understand the material, but because I know that every class I take as an architecture major moves me closer to becoming the best architect that I can be.” Idk maybe something like that? Also it doesn’t make sense for you to go back to the “average” university: why did you go back there if you were going to transfer out again? I would stay at the CC but again, that’s just my opinion. Try to do as much as you possibly can relative to architecture do display your new found passion for architecture. I think it makes more sense to apply out of a CC; again this is all just my opinion.
Good luck!
Let me know what you decide to do!

Ok I’m going to be an College Freshman this upcoming fall, my HS stats
-GPA 3.4
-ACT 25
-SAT 1620
-Extracurricular UIL (Texans would know), Student Council
-5 AP exams, waiting for answer on 3 (Calc, English Lit and Comp, and Bio) got a 5 on Spanish, and 3 on US Hist
-I think I can transfer next year if I pick up my GPA to a 3.8-4.0, my ACT and SAT are low to what I can actually get. I was hungover in one and in the other one I hadn’t slept the whole night (gf) I could get a 30 on ACT and a 2100 on SAT. I could ask some of my high school teachers from recommendation letters, they are college professors as well since they teach on a nearby university.
Do you think I have a chance?
