@cooliegirl,
I (and I am sure many others) are not denying that interest in science articles, etc show passion, but the harder question is, what have you done to pursue that passion?

This is only possible by taking part in the competitions (winning prizes is nice too), or on another level, taking a job at that museum or tutoring other kids in science, etc.

For college applications, you need to have tangible proof of your passions. It's not enough to be passionate; you have to demonstrate it.

Thanks a lot guys for your advice. I am really concentrating on my SAT now. I am getting around 2100 in kaplan practice tests and around 2250 in official sat tests. Critical reading long passages r torturing me. Can you advice me how to tackle those. Moreover, I have heard that top colleges dont really look at writing sat score. Is it true?
Secondly, I have been invited for a 3 day scientists interaction seminar from Central Science and Industrial Research Laboratories, Govt. Of india. I have also been invited to a 10-day basic sciences camp by my state council for science and technologies. I have also been selected in the next round of Maths Olympiad but the dates of SAT and olympiad clash. What do i do?? Do these things help my application considering that only a select few students throughout the region are invited?
Moreover, i heard that going for summer programs in Us like Research Science Institute (RSI) program help the application. is it so? can you tell me something about these or any other such options for me.
Thanks a lot for your advice. Please keep on helping me.

If you NEED to do the SAT, then go for the SAT and not the Math Olympiads. If not, definitely the math.

For RSI, only do what you love/enjoy doing; don't do it for the sake of padding up your application.

Yes, i would do those things only if i enjoy them but will they help my application? would it put a prettier picture in front of admissions officers? if yes, to what extent?

guys sat and deadlines for saying yes/no to those programs are nearing . any advices??? in my sat pratice tests, i seem to doin great once, scoring 2300+ and the nxt test i score 2000 hardly. i am doing kaplan premier program . wat do i do? any suggestions?

Is it true that top schools -the ones i m applying to - do not consider writing scores? Any suggestions on how to improve CR?
Thnx.
