My school offered me a direct parent loan as part of my financial aid package, but my parents never went through the credit check to get approved for it. I applied for a PLUS last year and got denied. Would they be able to use the information I gave last year to run a credit check for this year? Also, what happens if they get denied after I accept that part of the package?

Unless you’re a grad student, you cannot apply for a Plus loan. Parent Plus is for parents only, Grad Plus is for graduate students only. If your folks want to take a Plus loan to help pay for your expenses, they must apply for one. If they are denied, notify your FA office and ask to be certified for an additional unsubsidized Stafford loan. They can give you up to $4,000 extra in your name.

Okay i will give you a proper response as i just went through this. If you so decide that you want to take the parent plus loan that is offered in your FA package then what either one of your parents need to do is create an account on the federal aid website with a pin. They then need to log in and on the right hand side it will say apply for a parent plus loan. They will then go through the application for the loan and it will have on there a place to put who they are endorsing for, in which your SS number and name and which school you will be attending will be inputed. They will finish the application and at the end it will run the credit check. if your parents have decent credit they will be accepted, if they are declined they will have an option for an endorser for them so they can still get approved at which time you will have to print out this separate form for the person endorsing your parents and they will have to fill it out with all of their information. I hope that makes sense. I think where you went wrong was you applied for a parent plus loan under your account and name which automatically declined you, so have your parents make a new acc. I hope that helped somewhat =)!
