So I did the application and MPN for the Parent Plus Loan. It was approved immediately, and confirmed by phone when i called to ask a question about getting the college the info. Yesterday I got in the mail a letter that said I did qualify and they had done the credit report, etc. and everything was sent to the college BUT that the final decision was up to the college....they just forward my info and the college decides. What the heck? If the Direct Loans people approved me, is there any reason to think the college would not? Does the college do another credit review? Do I need to be worried at all? Now I have told my kid it's a go.....but it isn't after all? Any info from someone who has gone through PLUS loan process will be most appreciated.

They probably just need to have the school verify that you’re not borrowing more than cost of attendance minus scholarships/grants.

Once you are approved, that is all that matters. It’s not the schools money. The school has to certify the amount so the disbursement is not more than the COA minus the grants, scholarships, Stafford, Perkins.

Thanks for the info!!!

Hi there. I was wondering who you contacted to confirm you got approved. I did mine yesterday and it said Congratulations you have been approved for a parent plus loan and I was really suprised by it since my credit is not that great.
