Plymouth State University??

Anyone know anything about Plymouth State University's Music Theatre program? Or even just opinions about the school in general? I'm thinking of going for their late audition for their music theatre program because I got rejected from all of my other ones. Anything would help :) Thanks a lot.

Jen - I am very familiar with the Plymouth State program. It is an auditioned BA... very strong music/ voice componant to the program. Small classes in MT/ Theatre and Dance... they only really accept 6 - 8 into the MT option per year. A few students also choose to double major in music. The students in the program semm happy with the program and their training. Since it is a small program there is lots of individual attention and performance opportunities. The department is a department of music, theatre and dance... this is a strength of the program... all areas work together in the training of the students.

The university has about 3500 students... the campus is pretty... many of the students are from NH, Mass., CT, VT... Nice students, good academics... not a super difficult school to get into academically... I think a 3.0 GPA... but the teachers are very students centered, and are available to the students.

The town of Plymouth is a small college town about 2 hours north of Boston... so, if you are looking for a city school, Plymouth State is not it :)! Beautiful area right between the white mountains and the lakes region of NH.

Graduates from Plymouth State are working in the field... it is a pretty new MT option, so I don't think they have anyone on Broadway yet :) ... but students on tours, and working regionally. Most junior and Senior students are involved in summer theatre, and do well at NETC/ StrawHat auditions.

I have a lot more information, and know current students, so PM me if you would like for me to put you in contact with one of them.

FYI - Have you already contacted the department to set up an audition... this is from their website:

"Those planning to enroll in any degree program (major, interdisciplinary major or minor) in music, theatre or dance are required to arrange for an audition/interview (see the links at the bottom of this page for more information). Prospective students must contact the Department for an audition/interview by April 1, 2007 in order to be guaranteed an opportunity for Departmental admission during the 2007-2008 academic year!"

Hi, do you know how often people are accepted acidemically into the school, and then rejected from the program?

@pearlemerson This is an old thread, and I am not as connected to the program as I was in 2007 (I taught there through 2006), but do still have colleagues working there. I do not know the percentages, but I do know that in the past there have been people admitted academically to Plymouth, and not accepted to the program.
