def. raise ur SAT scores and study for the ACT as well. the verbal section is the hardest section for most of us. reading and memorizing vocab words is a good way to prepare for that section.

Duke reach
Rice reach
UC Berkeley reach
Georgetown reach- Are you okay with a Jesuit school? I’ve been reading reviews for Georgetown, and they say it’s not exactly the atmosphere of say; Notre Dame, but it’s still a Catholic School. I’ve also heard that the Jesuit professors are some of the best though, so it’s a personal preference.
UCLA
UCSD
UC Irvine
UC Riverside

[I don’t know all that much about the UCs, but I’m going to go with the general consensus here, and say that you’ll get in to Riverside and Irvine.]

“Yes, that’s right. High school is all about not doing anything fun except keeping your head in textbooks until you get the right grades to get into a decent college.”

THANKS FOR KEEPING IT REAL! We need that here on CC, because when people ask for their chances, they should be getting honest answers, not “Oh, you’re good, you’re a shoo-in, now will you plz chance me?”

alexandra,
i live in a ghetto city in the bay area, i dont wanna say its name cuz it might show my identity lol
i dont think i’ll be in top 4 percent cuz the top ppl in my class r way too competitive and snobby, and my school is also very big

as response to wut babydragon said, i just asked for some college chances, not for some random feedback about my original post
also plz dont use the word “despicable” when u can say something else like not good, or harmful

Oh, I just was wondering…yeah, I’m really giving my identity away on here…but I totally get it. Yeah- despicable is WAY too harsh. Not fair. Still, your chances are slim to average at this point. Keep hammering away. You have some great things going for you. Look at it this way: some people have “it”, and they don’t work at it or they do. These people make up a very small percentage. Those that don’t work at themselves never make it.

But then the vast majority of people DON’T have “it”- but many of them work their butts off to get somewhere. Although HYPS would love to have all the minority above, they have to accept a lot of the majority, because they know these people will work really hard and be successful. You have to remind yourself of where you fit in this, and how you can break the mold. This is what adcoms want to see.

If you had a 3.5 UW GPA for one semester even, how can you have a 3.99 UW now?

That being said, for the UCs, it’s a numbers game. Moreso than you’d think. GPA/SAT are infinitely more important than EC’s or whatever else you might use to sell yourself to them.

Your SAT is weak, but you know that. I don’t know if it’s possible to leap 300 points unless you literally took it cold for the first time that time. And even then it’s gonna be hard. That’s the nature of an aptitude test, you can only study for it so much.

If I had to guess, you are in at Irvine/Davis/etc. San Diego is somewhere between 60-80%. LA and Berk are reaches though.

In at all the UCs, maybe not Berkeley, but still a good shot at that one too.
Duke and Georgetown are reaches.
Rice and Berkeley I think are low reaches/high matches.
