Revised college list
Rice
Duke
Caltech
UC Riverside
UC Berkeley
UC Irvine
UCLA
UCSD
U of Maryland (college park)
Thank you and I will chance you back if requested.

Rice - reach
Duke - reach
Caltech - reach
U of Maryland - low reach
Lack knowledge of the UC’s

You’re 500 CR score is going to hurt you a lot. “first time and will retake in nov, aiming for 2200+.” Don’t expect a 400 point increase in your score, that’s a bit drastic (my SAT score the first time was a little better than yours. I studied a ton and got it up 190 points). To go for CalTech, you need at least a 750 on Math. If you study a lot for your SATs and can get ~2100, you have a better shot at MD and Rice, but i still think CalTech and Duke are going to be reaches for you. Good Luck! maybe think about volunteering at a hospital and/or pharmacy since you plan to go that route.

If you can get your SAT up to that 2100-2200 range I think your chances for most of these schools will be great. Right now, with your SAT andother stats I think that UCI UCSD UCR and MD all could be considered high matches for you, and UCLA and UCB behind them at low reaches with your in state status. I think that Rice, Duke, and Caltech would be reaches for you right now, but if you up your sat to that range i mentioned then they would be more of just a low reach, except for caltech.

Could you chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/739446-chances-colgate-nd-bc.html

If you get that SAT score up to the 2000 range, your chances would be pretty good for all of these schools. If not, you look like a good applicant for all of the UCs listed (they LOVE high GPAs) and Maryland.

correction: i wont be applying to caltech b/c i realized i never took physics and its req
bump plz…

I don’t really see how you can go from a low 1800 SAT to a 2200+ unless you get some radical help from prep classes and practice a TON!!! Your low income will probably help because it adcoms will be less critical about your scores than if you were rich. Being a minority helps (unless that minority is Asian). Write a great essay, get your SATs 2000+, and maybe do some community service, and I would say you have a decent chance.

Rice - reach
Duke - reach
Caltech - high reach
UC Riverside -idk
UC Berkeley - reach
UC Irvine - idk
UCLA - idk
UCSD - idk
U of Maryland (college park) - idk

I’m not too familiar with UCs, because I live on the east cost, so sorry about that!

bumpppppppppp

you gottttta get your scores up

Rice
Duke
Caltech
UC Riverside
UC Berkeley
UC Irvine - reach
UCLA - mega reach
UCSD
U of Maryland (college park) - with your SAT score, even this is a reach.

if you get it up 400 points like you’re saying, then definitely all of those are possible. rice will still be a reach, but if you get your SAT score up you’re guaranteed into MD

Thanks for the chance! You have a good GPA and decent stats. But your test scores need to improve.

Rice-reach
Duke-slight reach
Caltech-reach
UC Riverside-safety
UC Berkeley-reach
UC Irvine-match
UCLA-reach
UCSD-match/slight reach
U of Maryland-low reach

Hey thanks for chancing me!! Anyways, you need to bring up your SAT score. Try to get break a 700 in math and writing since you are pretty close, and the CR score needs some work as well. Now that it is summer, spend lots of time on SAT prep. Other than that, everything else is great, and your upward grade trend is remarkable. As of now:

Rice-reach
Duke-reach
Caltech-reach
UC Riverside-safety
UC Berkeley-reach
UC Irvine-match
UCLA-reach
UCSD-high match/low reach
U of Maryland (college park)-high match/low reach

Again, improve your SAT score so that you will have a better shot at your reaches. The schools are reaches because of your SAT score. If you score in the 2100-2200 range next time you take it, you will have a good shot at all your schools. Good luck!!

UCI, UCSD, UCR are definite… but less likely for UCB and UCLA
Rice, Dike, and Caltech, UoMaryland would be ~75% to me

Rice-reach
Duke-reach
Caltech-reach
UC Riverside-in
UC Berkeley-in
UC Irvine-in
UCLA-in
UCSD-in
U of Maryland (college park)-in

Rice-reach
Duke-reach
Caltech-huge reach
UC Riverside-??
UC Berkeley-low reach
UC Irvine-??
UCLA-low reach
UCSD-low reach
U of Maryland (college park)-low reach

IDK about the UC system except for the three that get a lot of out of state applicants.

As others have said, it would be best to improve your test scores. But, it really is possible for you to have a 400 pt increase if you want. After all, grammar is the bread and butter of english and is the easiest to master & math is logically based. As for CR, I had a real problem with that…I got a 580 the first time, but by simply reading I drastically improved my score. As for vocab even though it is important to memorize words, just knowing a good 75-100 words and practicing completing sentences with the help of context clues, modifiers, and other grammar rules will help.
Rice-reach
Duke-reach
Caltech-reach
UC Riverside-in
UC Berkeley-reach
UC Irvine-in
UCLA-reach
UCSD-low reach
U of Maryland-low reach

Rice- reach
Duke- reach
Caltech- low reach
UC Riverside- safety
UC Berkeley- reach
UC Irvine- low reach
UCLA- low reach
UCSD- match
U of Maryland (college park)- low match

boost your SAT score and you have a good shot at most of these schools.

Rice: doubtful

Duke: doubtful

Caltech: probably not

UC Riverside: most likely

UC Berkeley: maybe

UC Irvine: most likely

UCLA: most likely

UCSD: most likely

U of Maryland (college park): I’d say probable for OOS.

Rice high reach
Duke high reach
UC Riverside definately in
UC Berkeley reach
UC Irvine match
UCLA reach
UCSD low reach
U of Maryland (college park) not sure…i’ve never heard of that university

if you are going ot state engineering as your major, then you can try to retake math 2c, especially if you feel confident you’ll do better. but 730 is still a very good score.

once you get your SAT or ACT scores up, everything will change, in that your chances for acceptance will increase, obviously. but your resume looks really good!!! keep it up for senior year :D

You have an amazing GPA, but your test scores need to drastically improve. Maybe the Math and Writing can stay the same, but I suggest you improve the CR a lot.

IMO:

Rice - reach
Duke - reach
Caltech - reach
-Sorry, don’t know about UC’s-
U of Maryland - high match

Great profile, but the MAJOR thing holding you back is your SAT score. I know test scores aren’t everything, but they neeeeeed to go up.
Good luck!

Rice - Reach (Get a higher SAT score, and it will be less of a reach)
Duke - Reach (Pretty much a reach for everyone)
Caltech - Reach
UCB - Match (I’m assuming it’s easier if you live in CA)
UCI - Safety
UCLA - Same as UCB
UMCP - Match

If you can get the 2200+ on you next SAT, many of your reaches will become matches, some, like Rice, Duke, and Caltech will always remain crapshoots.
