I suggest you apply to these places as well: UMich, UIUC, UWashington Seattle, UT Austin and UCLA.

But do you think that my stats are good enough to help me gain admission into such selective schools?

I think they are quite good for these schools. And a school record like yours does helps alot. However, if you could post further details like your SAT II and/or AP scores, we would be able to give a better idea.

Actually I have not taken sat II and AP tests as I was just aiming for Georgia tech and Purdue. What do you reckon?

Yes, they aren’t required for Georgia Tech. However, if you do have the time to give them maybe in December, then I suggest you should take the tests. Many Indian applicants do have them and it does help in showcasing one’s talent. Besides, considering your academic record, I do not think you’ll experience any trouble with the tests. However, if it is necessary to apply early, it isn’t a problem as GaTech doesn’t ask for them.

Thanks RainMan999 for your suggestions.

And btw, out of UMich, UWash Seattle, UIUC, UT Austin and UCLA, only UCLA requires SAT Subject Tests. So I guess you are fine.

You’re alright.

Guys, I just need some suggestions. How are Ohio State University & University of Pennsylvania for mechanical engg? What are my chances for getting an admission in these universities?
Do they offer scholarships?

I do not know much about Ohio State. UPenn is an Ivy League school. The mechanical engineering program is not as good as that of Georgia Tech. However, overall, UPenn is one of the best schools in the country. At the undergraduate level, this does matter as the networking with UPenn (Wharton especially) students will surely help you ahead. At the undergraduate level, rankings do not matter much. UPenn is a reach for most people. This is simply because it’s an Ivy League school. One either needs a combination of scores+ grades+ECs to get in here or one needs to have something really outstanding such as high quality research or one the best essays that they’ll receive in this year.

Thanks @Rainman999 for your response. Can someone plz tell me about Ohio State University…

Ohio State is an okay school, definitely not as good as Georgia Tech. They seem to have a large focus on the sports, but they do have plenty of resources for you as a student. I’d like to add to what RainMan said about UPenn: at UPenn, more engineering majors go into finance/investment banking than into the workfield of their major. It’s a great school, and as a special applicant, I feel that you should definitely consider applying as it will definitely get you far in the United States.

Thanks CMUChanceMe… Any more suggestions are welcome…
I have applied early action to Georgia Tech & Purdue. Hoping for positive results.
All the best guys!!!

My friend was saying that her counsellor said that since GaTech is now on the Common Application, admissions may become tougher than they were. So just beware. It’s good you applied early.
