Plz Chance Me!

I’m applying under EE.

Location: Visalia, CA (San Joaquin Valley)
Ethnicity: Hispanic (First-Generation Mexican)
Income: <$40K
Public HS
Weighted GPA: 3.76
Unweighted GPA: 3.62
Weighted College: 3.81
Class Rank: 50-something out of 450ish; it’s gone up since I last checked because of some grade changes
ACT Composite: 32 (English 31, Math31, Reading34, Science 30)

SAT Score: Took it on The 7th, waiting for results. I’m thinking of just going with the ACT scores.

AP Bio: 5 , AP Environmental Science: 5 , AP Calculus AB: 5

4 years in the school band, 1 sem of drama, 1 sem of jazz band, only 2 yrs of foreign language, no sports or official clubs

oh and i have a brother who was a freshman there last year, if that makes a difference

I’d say you have a pretty nice shot.

Just curious, what do you play in band? I’m a tenor drummer myself.

played clarinet ( yeah, I know) up through junior year, then switched to f horn for this year’s show. played xylo for winter drumline, gonna try out for bass 5 (I’m quite tall) for this year. currently learning sax from a friend to be in jazz band next semester.

You have Good ACT score. They like the ACT better than the SAT, atleast that’s what a cal poly advisor told me. You have really good shot!!!

Schools in general, not just Cal Poly, are liking the ACT these days, so I concur that you have an excellent chance. I wonder if your impressive musical background will be a factor. IMHO it should but many say ECs don’t matter.

I’m not really accenting the music thing, its just under my classes.

That’s cool, same here; I just put band down for classes and used the outside hours for extracurricular. I would imagine it looks good, though. It always does when you’re really committed to something.

Same with my daughter. She’s been in Chorus, Choir and Jazz Singers all 4 years of h.s. (classes), but also does a lot of performing off campus through these groups. Also had vocal lessons for 2 years. But, like you, music isn’t what she’s majoring in. And her community service is not related to music.
