After getting rejected from Wharton, my dream school, I am now torn between these three remaining choices.

Columbia - Econ
Duke - Econ
NYU Stern - Finance

I am a Thai, and would like to work for an investment bank. In terms of prestige, I realise that they all are very good schools. But in terms of job placement, which one will most likely get me a good job in Ibanking? Thx in advance for every answer!

let me tell you are a damn lucky person.....(if u need finaid then take the one which is offering you max...because all will get u excellent placements)....
Now if that is not your concern....I'd suggest u go with Columbia as it has excellent contacts in private equity and venture capital....

I agree with vampiro, if you do need finaid go to the one which offers you the most. Otherwise, I strongly recommend you to go to Columbia as it has a campus, unlike Stern, and it has a much better sense of community. The job opportunities at Columbia are pretty much the same as the ones at Stern, maybe only the research part is unrivaled at Stern. You can get into I-banking even if you do only economics, and NYC offers you great perspectives. Do you mind sharing some stats with us? I am completely amazed by your success.

actually if u do a BA/MA in Econ...it can save you 3 yrs of analyst work....

well to get into the program in the first place is very tough. They have that option at Northwestern but only 2-3 out of 300+ econ majors get the invitation, so 1% isnt ridiculously high. Also, most students after BA/MA go into PhDs.

About it being easy to join as an associate and skipping 3 years of drudgery as the smallest fry - an analyst, its possible, but you need the internships and luck to get it. Usually u might join as 2nd or 3rd year analyst, so basically that one year u spend in MA = 1 year of analyst, or maybe u can skip one year thanks to it.

not a lot of people have heard of duke outside of this country- nyu-Stern and Columbia are recognized much more internationally. choose either school they are both great. but nyu as a whole places more people in i-banking than the other two. but it will be stupid to base your decision just on that, take everything into consideration.
