Plz help !!! transfer to UCLA

I’m a comm studies major at UCLA, and I haven’t met a transfer admit to the program with a GPA that low (or anywhere near that low, to be honest). Don’t change your major based on the school you want to go to, find schools that have attainable comm studies programs and choose from them. Do you really want to base your entire academic future and career on the university you attend for 2 years? Maybe look at LMU and Pepperdine if you’re willing to go to a private; if not, you might have a chance at UCSB. Do well wherever you go for undergrad, and maybe you’ll have a shot at UCLA for grad school.

Yea, listen to leifE8’s advice. His suggestion is much better than mines.
And try asking questions about UCLA in the following thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1252276-ask-fall-11-ucla-transfer-admit.html

if you don’t have a 3.8+GPA, don’t even bother applying to Biz Econ, Econ or Communication, or Global Studies. You need at least 3.7+ for psychology, sociology, etc. You need at least 3.7+GPA for any engineering majors and at least 3.5+ to be competitive for non-impacted majors. If your GPA is lower than 3.3, don’t even applying, because its a WASTE of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

thank you all to gave me suggestions!! I appreciate it!!

Yeah, your chances of UCLA are very slim, assuming you’ve been a consistent 3.2-3.3. If you had three F’s your first semester and a 4.0 ever since (and a good reason for why your first semester was awful), you might have a chance. Aside from that, start thinking about UCD, UCI, and UCR.

UCR exist for a reason :D

I am a Global Studies major at UCLA, and the advice you are getting is correct. To begin with, you need to have a very strong transfer GPA. In addition, you need to have completed the vast majority of your pre-requisites at you community college. Be very selective when choosing courses to fulfill your IGETC, so that you don’t waste any time. Lastly, once you get to UCLA you will have to take Global Studies 1 and obtain at least a B+, as you need a 3.25 GPA in all “Global STudies Prep Classes”, which for a transfer student is only this one class. A B just won’t cut it! The chair of the division ONLY considers your UCLA GPA (and your prep course completion) when deciding to actually admit you to the major!BE WARNED!!!

I must admit that I was very angry at the hoops you are required to jump through as a GS major. Especially as you can work like a dog for two years to get into UCLA, and then be rejected at the last hurdle as you only obtained a B on the core course your first Quarter at a UC!

Global STudies is not an easy option, once you are in either. Many of the classes you need to take are reserved on first pass for students in other programs (PolSci, History, Econ ect). Plus, in order to graduate you need to write a 35 page piece of original research (this is a “Capstone Degree” - a bit like a mini-Masters program). Do not apply for Global Studies unless you really want pursue the issues of globalization.

Lastly, have an alternative major in mind in case you get rejected from Global Studies. Geography is a good choice as the pre-reqs are simple (3 geog classes) and you can overlap between the two majors at UCLA, meaning that if you take geog classes your first quarter but get rejected from GS, they would still count towards a geog degree!

Good luck.

Go for something like Geography or Anthropology and then minor in Global Studies.

In the end will it matter if your CV list Global Studies or Anthropology with a minor in Global Studies? Probably not.

3.2 for comm tho? what happened?
