Plz HELP!

I am having trouble between OSU and PENN STATE UP. I am planning on studying bio and atteneding med school. Money isn’t a issue. Which school would be better? I liked both campuses btw

Both schools are very similar. However, OSU is in a city, and Penn State is in the middle of nowhere. If that matters, consider that. Otherwise, choose the college where you feel most comfortable.

I highly doubt you were accepted to Ohio State with a 1650 SAT…especially this year since the number of applicants were high compared to last year…looks like a ■■■■■ post…

Both are same, attend Ohio State if you like city, Penn State if you like small town

well sorry you dont believe me. but i was and i have proof… i was also accepted into penn state which is obviously the harder school to get into.

No Actually Penn State is easier to get into this year since they are receiving very low number of applications
http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2012/11/15/Penn_State_application_numbers_down.aspx</a>
Look at the PSU Class of 2017 decision thread…people with 1590 SAT are getting accepted which is impossible at Ohio State…

I still believe you are just bluffing by saying “I am having trouble between OSU and PENN STATE UP.”

If you really want to know which is better just ask,Don’t have to make up stuff…Both are same. One is located in a small town, other near a big city Columbus

Isnt one better than the other? even slightly? It seems as if Ohio State grads aren’t as respected as penn state grads. I live by NYC where top shots are everyday, and they all seem to respect penn state.

Then why are you asking the question on the OSU forum?

Yes, PSU is highly respected, but you won’t go wrong with OSU.

I highly doubt a degree from one is more respected than the other…They are both equal

The one thing I can think of is last year around 41k people applied to PSU UP and 26k to OSU main…you could make the unprofessional conclusion that PSU is more popular but things are changing this year…Its OSU’s first time in the Common app and they are receiving lot more applications than last year…OSU has 43% yield whereas PSU only 32% probably because their in state price is extremely high.

I prefer Penn State, however, because of what happened last year i am frightended that the school name, repuatation, and strenghts may die out soon. Which school would you attend?

The scandal won’t do anything to the academic side of Penn State…Other things might happen like PSU receiving low money from State which means prices will go up, etc.
I like small town’s…so Penn State for me…Also, I am in state which means PSU will be very cheap compared to the OOS price of Ohio.

do you believe Penn state will be one of those top notch universities throughout the years?

That’s a pretty vague question…I guess they will remain where they are now.

This is a hard question. You will have to visit both of them before deciding. If you randomly just choose one without even visiting, then that decision can be considered immature or irresponsible. Both are very different so, no way to decide before visiting…

For med school, undergraduate doesn’t matter, you will get the same education. Although, it doesn’t matter for undergradute, PSU’s medical campus Hershey is around 90 miles from main campus.

The city/country thing is the biggest difference. I guess it’s worth mentioning that OSU’s academic reputation continues to rise in engineering and physics. That’s the info I have.

i like psu better! im just scared that psu won’t be much respected in a few years and will constantly go down. do you guys believe it will still be an elite university few years from now? i want to be able to look back at my alma mater 20 years from now and still see them up there

Maybe ask that question on the PSU forum.

I was in the same situation (I’m studying neuroscience and doing pre-med) but I’m going with OSU and am doing the honors program (honors class sizes are a lot smaller).

The big thing for me was that PSU doesn’t even offer a neuroscience major. The other thing was the location; I want to get into med school and I just think a city setting like Columbus with its own hospital system would offer me a lot more opportunities for volunteer work, internships, etc. without having to stray too far from campus, whereas University Park is pretty much in its own little town and to me the options just seem a little limited. Also, OSU has its own med school right on campus that it takes preference from, I could be wrong but I think PSU’s med school is on a different campus.

And I like the city setting because there are more options for things to do in your free time, you have all of Columbus at your reach!

All in all, they’re pretty similar so it’s just up to personal preference! Go bucks!

Thanks so much! I’m doing BME at both schools. However, i prefer PSU better because of that small town feel, it adds to the experience. My only concern is that I’m unsure if PSu will still be considered an elite university. i want to be proud of my alma mater.
