SATs:
-Ok so i took them the first 2 times and..well...blew them with 1600 or 1620(i think)lol...planning on taking it again in June nd this time im determined to score 1720-1850(please assume these r my SAT results)

-SAT IIs-Going to take Economics and History(or maybe MAth I)

Extras:
-Expecting near full marks on TOEFL
-I can write a killer college essay
-Going to get 2-4 amazing recommendation letters

ok,i was hoping for stern, but now,I JUST WANNA GET IN!LOL...Economics/Business/finance major......ANY CHANCE AT NYU AT ALL???????????????????? (EA)

your math grades are low for a economics or finance major. Are applying to Stern or Cas. I would think you would want the upper 600's (at the minimum) in math. Also you need at least 2 sat II tests I think.

Those C's are going to hurt (assuming they are equivalent to the American grading scale 100-90=A, 90-80=B, etc) and seeing as you're international, (which means it'll be harder to get in) I would suggest trying to get above an 1850 for even a chance at CAS, and above a 2000 for Stern, with a strong Math score. BTW, nyu is early decision only and doesn't have ea. Also, I don't think there is an economics SAT II.

thanks sue nd thank u too scorpion....yea theres macro economics...nd i thot being international helps...dnt they want diversity??..nd wuts the difference btween ED and EA?

first off there is no economics SAT 2 and your grades and standardized tests are a bit low. i would try CAS(try declaring like an obscure major to maximize your chances and then just change it later on)

you know , you shouldnt expect a C or low Bs, you should aim for like As and high Bs. I mean if Cs and low Bs are what you expect in high school, NYU econ or Stern business isnt really for you

no haha..its just that our school is rllllly hard...u have no clue...its a private international school...grades r only academically based...based on exams...6 exams a week...teachers dnt give u the scores...the exams do!...but come on ppl...think i have the slightest chacne????

oh nd this might sound like some sort of cliche...but i rllly do think i deserve to be at NYU...Economics,Business nd even political science fascinate me nd it feels like i kno everythin abt the darn subjects...i rlly do think i wud excel at nyu or the other colleges im applying to...(GW,Gtown,AU,UChic,McGill etc.)

well here is the thing. grading in schools differ but standardized tests do not
the median stern SAT m/r is 1450 (keep in mind this is out of 1600, only counting math and reading)
so if you can do well on standardized tests, you might have a shot

lol:(....writing is always going to be my best score...i expect this next time i take the SAT M550-610 W640-720 CR520-580....but come on...its going to be 2009...how come the writing isnt as important?

ok...so i plan to apply ED with all the stats posted above nd hopefully 1750-1900 on the SAT...SATIIs r probally going to be History and mathI...good enough?....Stern or CAS...but in the end i need to major in business and finance...sooooo..............?

LoBozz. Check out this years decisions thread...it's the best resource for comparisons. EVen for CAS I'd say the average SAT is 1340 and it looks like you have what...a 3.1ish GPA, looks like the average is closer to 3.65-3.8 (and that's CAS) Stern is considerably harder. The boards are full of "surprise acceptances" but usually if you see a kid get in that's got lower stats they are an under represented minority or have a MAJOR hook (doesn't appear you do).

There was one girl that had probably the most unbelievable (but I guess true) EC's who got into Steinhardt, but she had a portfolio and her stats were still higher than yours.

Apply ED if it's your dream school. But be smart. According to the odds and past acceptance histories, you have a VERY SLIM chance of getting into NYU (again not so much an opinion..I'm basing it on numbers)so have a stack of applications ready to mail out December 15th just in case...and make sure you have a good balance of "match schools" AND reaches.

Sorry to be a kill joy, but better be realistic and totally psyched if you get in, then think you have a good chance and are disappointed. best of Luck

Oohhh just saw the post about your other choices...do you have anyone advising you? Your closest match is GW and if you apply there ED (they are one of the TOP schools to apply ED cause they're acceptance rate is so much higher) you have a fighting chance...but Georgetown, U Chicago...McGill? Go on to US News website and pay the $10 or so to subscribe to the rankings. Check out the average SAT's (most without writing) and GPAs as well as class rank. Plug in your numbers...are they good matches, if not apply to them as "Hail Mary" schools and make it priority number one to find some MATCH schools and the help of an advisor of sorts. Do you have a guidance or placement counselor at your school? Seems like you're on your own there

hahaha ok...the reason im applying to these schools is becuz...our school is an international, one of the best schools worldwide(known for that)..nd ive seen miracccllless happen...this guy got into MIT with a GPA of 3.8 and 1230 on old SAT...another guy got into UVA with 4.0(ok gr8) but a 1850 on new SAT?...i just expect the worst nd hope for the best:D....thanks anyways.......P.S. im gettin recommendation letters from Mcgill and Berkeley alumnis..if it helps
