My friends on SFCU hate it. PNC has ATMs in dorms and many other buildings (and Wawas). It is the most convenient one on campus.

pnc all the way

I have an account at both PNC and SFCU. I usually need to talk to SFCU more often about my problems, PNC’s better on that. But then again the people at SFCU are all pretty nice so usually i don’t mind telling them a couple of more times what my problem is.

The big thing about keeping an account with SFCU for me is cause my dad sends me international wires from Shanghai. And the one time i did it through PNC they charged me $20 so thus far I’d like to say I’ve saved about $100 on wires because of that.

PNC is really convenient – I never had any problems with them

The SFCU has more ATMs than you think. You can actually use PNC’s ATMs and 38,000 Allpoint machines without the $1.50 charge.

As someone who works at the SFCU, I’d like to give you the inside scoop:

The SFCU is filled with kids. We have a huge turn-over rate and our systems are old. This summer, we’re upgrading to a new system. This could mean fewer problems but we will still have to figure out how to work with the new systems.
Bottom line: you’ll have a higher chance of problems. Your money will never disappear and there will never be a problem that goes unsolved. Only more errors and more vexing experience. In return, we charge A LOT less than PNC/other banks.

If you want a checking account and you’re a regular user, go for PNC. If you’re expecting to do more with your account (large sums where interest matters, wires, cashier checks, etc) it makes sense to bear with us and save a bundle.

Well said, necrophiliac.
