Poetry.com legitimate?

Is this website's poetry contest legitimate or is it just a scam to get your money?

It is a scam

Do not do it

I had a professor, at the University I went to prior to transfer, who was an award winning poet

She said it was a scam

I've heard others say it was a scam too.
Sucks.

It's a scam. I submitted somethign and was asked to buy the book that they would publish with my poem in it. was about to do it...but then I was smart and googled them and found millions of stories about their scamminess.

I've been told its a scam

What are some legitimate poetry contests then? Sorry for hijack. ;)

It is a scam!!! They had it on 20/20!!! I tried it too, and they said they were going to publish my poem, but that was before I heard it on 20/20!!!!! DO NOT DO it!
I am being serious!

This year, my eighth grade year, they allowed us to submit poems to the American Poetry Society or something like that. I submitted a sonnet I had just written for a class assignment. I didn't hear anything until a week or two ago, (I submitted back in April) and it said I had been "accepted" to move on and be published in their book, "Excellence". Now, I realized it was a cleverly worded scam because I hadn't "won" anything. So I talked to someone else who submitted as well, and they said they got the same letter. Basically, they wanted us to buy the $50 book (and that was on discount ;)) before we could advance. So yeah, a lot of those things are big scams. I'm still suprised though that our school wouldn't look into something before doing something like that... I had another experience with this math excellence book to where we were guarenteed a spot in the book even if we didn't buy won. So one out of five people bought the book, and she was the onlyt won to have her name in it. LOL, all those things that talk about publishing you, they are scams.... Ok I'm done ranting about scams I've been through :)

^ Is your school called "Holy Spirit" High School? And is it public or finaned by taxdollars?

Yes, my school is Holy Spirit High School. It is a Catholic school. We have to pay tuition to go there, but a majority of the people in my town go there because of a weird sending district thing that occurs. (Note that this is not the school that this poetry thing happened in, but you probably realized this already... just checking) So it is open to everyone, except you have to pay to go there.

LEGITIMATE POETRY CONTEST:
Scholastic

I've won various poetry contents in the 5th grade but that was the only one I remember for which I got a monetary prize and didn't have to give them anything.
