I submitted first week of January. Received the email saying I’m a semi-finalist today! Does anyone know how many people are usually passed on to the semi-finalist stage? I know it’s something like 85-90 invited to interview as finalists.
Got the email yesterday, I’m a semifinalist!!

Good luck everyone! Still waiting to hear back about semifinals myself. Has anyone made it to the phone interview round in the past? Any advice?

got the semi-finalist email today!
i applied back in november and have hear nothing from them… i guess at this point that means i’m not a semifinalist? i i know they say not to contact them for a status update until 2/12, but it’s the friday before then so i guess it’s a no. does anyone know how late they’ve notified in the past?
They might notify on Monday!

They might be staggering semifinalist acceptances, so probably don’t worry until the 2/12 date; I got the semifinalist notification today as well . Just to confirm, this isn’t like a scam, right?
I did some Googling based on your question and don’t think so-- many colleges recommend it as a source of financial support on their sites, people get written about in local papers for being semifinalists and finalists, it has a good track record with charity evaluators. I did learn that apparently it’s a bad place to work, but it seems like they’re trying to fix that too.
I also received the semifinalist notification on 2/12! Now i have writers block for my essays 
I turned all my materials in a little while ago. Anxiously waiting to hear about the phone interviews. Let us know if/when you get a phone interview!
What are people’s responses to question 1 looking like? Is it like a non-academic elevator pitch?
Struggled with the 35 word section… Ended up being more of a belief statement for me. Really not possible to encompass someone in 35 words.
Has anyone received an phone interview in the past? What should I expect?
i took an alternate route with the 35 word section and did something that’s more like poetry so i could communicate more information with fewer words. we’ll see if that was the right call. i sent my materials a couple days ago… fingers crossed!
