Point of sending ACT if SAT already perfect?

Say I got a 2400 on my SAT and a 35 on my ACT. Would there be any advantage in sending in both scores if I was applying to the most competitive universities (T20)? I see people usually posting both SAT and ACT in their chance threads, but do people actually send in both scores to their colleges?

I would send both. They test different things in different ways.

The advantage of sending in both, is that they may tend to reinforce each other – if they are consistent and high.

The biggest advantage, though would probably be that some schools require you to take the SATIIs if you only submit the SAT, but not if you submit the ACT.

In the case you describe (hypothetical at this point?) if you have a perfect 2400, and have comparable SATIIs, it will probably neither help nor hurt to send both sets of scores.

So, the additive effect of the ACT is mitigated if I have good SATII scores in addition to my SATI? So much so that it would be a waste of money to send it in?

At this point, I’d be happy for colleges to see both of my scores, it would only be an issue of money that would determine if I would and to how many of them…

bump? 10char

Waste of money is a strong term, given what we’re talking about here. If it were me (or more properly my child), I’d probably send both in. However, I don’t think it would make much difference, if any, in the end.

Send they’re awesome!

Nonsense. Colleges…do…not…care. It is NOT worth the $$. And ‘waste’ it is. Once you clear that colleges’ test threshold (which is generally ~median), the adcoms then go look at the other stuff in the app. There are no bonus points in the application for having multiple scores that say the exact same thing. This is no difference than submitting recs that say the exact same thing.

High test scores will not get you in, but low test scores will keep you out.

Correct. Even Yale accepts the ACT+W in lieu of SAT+STs.
