My daughter was accepted to the Point Park Acting program. She did a walk-in at unifieds and was surprised to get offered a spot. After doing all kinds of research on the schools she scheduled for auditions, she ends up being accepted to a program we know almost nothing about! I haven't seen much posted about this school -- other than it seems weak academically, is an urban campus, that students enter as a BA and must audition for BFA later in the program . . . I would greatly appreciate anyone's opinion or insight into the quality of their acting program, campus life, anything.

Congrats on having your D accepted at PPU! My S, also, was accepted there, and we live in Pittsburgh and have been around PPU students and faculty for years. My S chose to go elsewhere, however. He wanted a different sort of experience than what PPU offers.

Anyway, it is an urban campus, with a nice theater facility located several miles from the main campus. However, there is shuttle service, and we're told that it is frequent and reliable--no problems. The university is planning a state-of-the-art downtown theater facility, but it probably won't be constructed in time for your D to use it much if at all.

You know the nuts and bolts already. We have seen many shows, and we have seen the PPU faculty and a few students act all over Pittsburgh. The shows get rave reviews, usually, from the theater critics and the faculty get very nice mentions and awards all the time. Some extremely talented students act in the community beginning in their sophomore year.

They now have a masters-level program in acting and have attracted students. I'm not sure how that impacts the undergrad instruction, but it may not at all. My Husband is now in a community theater production directed by a PPU faculty member and which has two masters students as cast members. He is QUITE IMPRESSED.
