Points of View

Well, not in "The Christine Dictionary"! Lol, jk. Okay, that was bad...

Replace "religions" with "religions and/or belief systems"

Too bad the Constitution doesn't say that Congress shall not respect an establishment of religion or belief system, huh? :P

Who's to weigh what a bunch of old white men should be doing with other people's lives?

Harsh girl, calling me a nerd. It's sad enough that everyone on here id debating moot topics in a forum devoted to colleges.

Also, the press secretary doesn't control what the government gives the media as fodder. Karl Rove does that. How much has been said about the the alleged leaks by Rove or the scandals in congress? I don't think those are hot topics in the news these days. Scooter Libby definitely hasn't gotten the same sort of press coverage as Ken Starr with Clinton. But hey, Clinton was a pimp, sex sells. So yeah, they make news to sell and that interests the citizens of the US. But frankly, I don't give f*** about what people do in private with their own bodies. It's all about teh benjamins and I think we should care about how the government is spending untold billions on Iraq and precious time debating civil unions.

Oh, and I enjoy this debate. I look forward to meeting everyone who has posted on this forum at Chicago next fall.

I wouldn't be offended if you brought a bible to school. I probably wouldn't be offended if you started handing them out either. The differnece between handing out condoms and bibles is that handing out bibles is unconstitutional (entanglement of the state in religion) whereas handing out condoms is not. Being offensive to some does not make an activity illegal or unconstitutional. For instance, because of your religion you might be offended by the teaching of evolution but this does not mean that it is unconstitutional or worng to teach evolution. Part of a public schools mission is to provide for the health and welfare of its students. Handing out condoms is not an invitation to have sex, its just a reminder that if you do, you should do so safely.

I have to confess, I don't really know a lot about the Karl Rove case, except that a CIA agent was exposed in an article, and the writer was put in jail for not outing out the source. But I don't really know what the CIA agent was trying to accomplish, so I don't know what to think of it quite yet.

The press secretary communicates the agenda. Karl Rove is my hero. How many times have you heard him mention gay marriage?
I agree. Making such a big deal out of Clinton was ridiculous. He shouldn’t have lied, though. That ruined it for him.

I didn’t mean the school hand out Bibles. I meant me personally. (And sorry, sometimes I forget that I go to a private school in Alabama…we’ve had Bibles handed out.) I also didn’t mean condoms as an invitation to sex.

Karl Rove is a genius, I'll give you that. His head is HUGE!!! MAybe it's because he's bald...

The fact is the CIA agent was undercover and US governmetn officials don't matter-of-factly leak the name of the official cough valerie Plame cough to the news. It would be comparable to Watergate in its scandalous nature. Also there may habe been some ill-will between the president's administration and the agent's husband. But Karl Rove hasn't been implicated of anything yet, but there are strong suspicions and the press has been awfully quiet about it over the past few weeks.

yeah, you could hand out bibles if you wish. It might be rather expensive. But sure...I'd take one -I'll take about anything if it's free.
Karl Rove has always seemed a little slimey to me. The whole Plame affair was an attempt to discredit her husband,an ambassador and active critic of the war in Iraq, by means of saying that he only got the job because of his wife. Actually I think her husband might have actually lied about something himself, if I'm not mistaken.
Have any of you seen "Journeys with George"- it's a documentary made by this very liberal journalist about her role following Bush's 2000 campaign. Bush comes off as really charming- it makes it pretty hard to dislike him (and believe me, I've tried)

Karl Rove IS a genius. Political strategy is awesome. I want his job someday.

Journeys with George is hilarious. I love it and like it more than The War Room (and not because I'm a Republican, but because of the style of filming). It would be an awesome job to make a documentary like that someday, too.

I am not a tree, I'm a Bush :D

"Free condoms!!! They have to be everywhere, I'm pretty sure that would do quite a bit to solve the abortion problem."

That sounds like it would work, but it doesn't. Some schools started doing that and STD and pregnancy rates went up. Kids took the condoms as a message that premarital sex was acceptable and missed the safe premarital sex part, I guess. Stupid teenagers... I say get rid of absinence only and primarly abstinence sex ed. Have you ever seen a picture of someone with genital herpes? Ewww. Those pictures belong in school. They can turn anyone off.

"Oh, and I enjoy this debate. I look forward to meeting everyone who has posted on this forum at Chicago next fall."

Ditto. :)

Alright, sex ed and free condoms. Also pictures of nasty STDs like herpes, genital warts, hepatitis, and everything else. I remember seeing those pictures in middle school sex ed and being really disgusted. It's like turning people off from smoking by showing pictures of diseased lungs on cigarette cartons in Canada. I think many people stopped smoking after that.

I think its none of the schools business to preach about smoking/drinking/sex/violence, w/e. It should be the sole responsibility of the parents to discipline and educate their kids.

It should be, but there are plenty of parents who don't teach their kids about that stuff. I don't know what the solution is. Sex ed and DARE certainly don't work.

Well if rappers keep on rapping and doing drugs nothing is going to change teh mindset of many kids. I'm pretty sure if 50 cent wasn't rapping about the **es and hos he gets then sex might not seem so glamorous. But sometimes there's nothing society can do to stop kids from having sex. It's a natural for everyone to want it, and everyone will do it eventually (watch the 40 year-old virgin). There just has to be some way to tell people about the consquences of fing around with numerous people.

I officially deem this thread dead. Cause of death- excessive exposure to 50 cent. Time of death- 2:32 December 30.

Don't be hatin' now.

/mourns :( :( :(
