Poli Sci Harvard

just kiddin' i'm not applying to harvard but just wanted to ask what schools are noted for good poli sci departments/faculty?

i'm an international student, asian, and have crappy gpa and so-so SATs.
gpa: 3.2/4.0 (unweighted)
sat: 600V, 510M, 510W

I'm going to take the SAT ii's soon.

what schools would you recommend for me???

If you use the search option, you will see that this question has been asked about a million times.

i did use the search option... but i still wanted to hear people's opinions about schools pertaining to my current situation.

thanks!

With your stats, American in DC comes to mind...

american... how about GWU?

Gwu: Reach

Don't get too hung up on the quality of the department in a field like poli sci that nearly every college and university has. Virtually every college and university with a decent overall reputation will have an adequate undergrad poli sci department, and with your gpa and test scores you aren't in a position to get really picky.

Best approach is to come up with a list of colleges you particularly like, and ask if anyone knows them to be especially weak in poli sci. There might be a couple here or there that are particularly weak, but in general all the big state universities, and the better liberal arts colleges and private universities will have a department that will keep you busy and teach you a lot.

yeah i understand my gpa and test scores aren't great.

I wanted to see which schools were a good match for me in the field of poli sci... since I don't have a good idea yet...

bumpbumpbumpbumpbump

umpbumpbumpbumpbumpumpbumpbumpbumpbumpumpbumpbumpbumpbump

Harvard doesn't have a "Political Science" department (a common mistake), but they do have a "Department of Government": http://www.gov.harvard.edu/

Harvard is also home to the famous Public Policy Graduate Program, Kennedy School of Gov't: http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/

Prestige probably came home exhausted from a polo match, dove into a plate of steak tartare, and didn't have his manservant brief him on the entire thread.

hahahaahhahahah

AMERICAN! AU is the most politically active campus in the country- has an incredible Poli Sci department and is great for internationals! definitely look into it!

yeah i think i'll apply to AU... hoping i'll get some sort of financial aid... :P

Look at colleges that are in state capitals or are in or near D.C. Usually such places have excellent poli sci departments, and many such places would be happy to have a student with your stats.Since financial aid is important for you, also check out the financial aid info on the colleges' web sites to find out if you're likely to get the aid you need.

Good point about picking schools in/near the states' capital cities, Northstarmom. Such places that the OP could get into include Nebraska, Michigan State, Ohio State, Minnesota, Sacramento State, South Carolina, Florida State, Wyoming, Utah, Louisiana State, U of Hawaii, & Arizona State.

Yeah, I've been doing exactly what Northstarmom has suggested... looking at individual college websites and looking at financial aid information for internationals. I think American U is a very good choice... also U. Richmond.

Do you have any suggestions on other school names I might look into?

Tourguide: those seem to me like public schools... I don't think public schools give much aid to international students... do you have any other suggestions for schools?

Macalester College is another to consider. Kofi Annon went there.

Private colleges in state capitals: U of Denver, Seattle U., Providence College, Drake University.

Clark U. in Worcester, Mass seems to throw the money around pretty freely.
