Poli Sci/Social Science PhD 2007 Admissions Results

I got into LSE...wanted to go, too.

But it's amazing how quickly 22K Sterling becomes a lot of money. ;)

Phx,

I thought you said you were getting a doctrate at LSE. Either way, I'm glad youre financially well off, because I (or UCLAri, as you can see) sure couldn't afford to live/study in London.

in at GWU, but without any funding...so that completely blows. going to try to meet w/ the advisor i was assigned (who happens to be the chair of the dept.) to see if there's some change lying around, because i'm not about to pay money for a doctorate degree. still waiting on georgetown and umd, but if GWU didn't fund me, i imagine i either won't get in to the other 2, or get in without any funding.

I'm desperate to hear back from gtown's ssp <:(

Apparently they sent out admit/rejection letters on March 2nd, and I know one person who received an admit friday march 9th and another who received a rejection. If I havn't received anything yet...do you think it's just in the mail still?

FP06: well, i don't think that is necessarily true. who knows what different departments are looking for? i have known people who have been rejected from a lesser known program and then accepted by a top tier. overall, this whole thing seems pretty unpredictable, kwim? so i wouldn't expect rejections based on that. good luck!

FP06, did you apply to U of chicago? my friend applied for PHD there, rejected, but they offered the MA 1 year intensive program, not too familiar with that, anyone helps?

Bnb,

Those programs are usually cash grabs aimed at funding PhD students. I know the MAPSS is notorious for that, as is the MAPH program.

i did apply to chicago, but the phd was the only real option for me since i already have a masters degree - because of that, i'm sure they didn't ever consider me for the MAPSS program.

btw, anybody hear from georgetown?

or GW? anyone heard from them yet?

yeah...in at GWU. they made all their decisions about 2 weeks ago.

Still waiting to hear from Gtown and their security studies program <: ( I know they made 1st round rejections/admits in early march, but they're still working on final decisions. Anyone heard anything?

Hey, I heard back first round via snail mail and then got another e-mail yesterday (monday) from the security studies department inviting me up. still haven't heard back from the ph.d. school which makes me think no, since others heard back yesterday. boo.

Yep. Heard back from SSP yesterday evening via-email. I'm IN!! Completely ecstatic. Official notice arriving by mail.
