Poli Sci/Theatre (Performance Based) Double Major -- Help me find my fit!

I am looking for a school (no preference on location or size) that has a strong performance based Theatre or Acting (B.A.) major that would allow me to double major or at least have a minor with a lot of coursework in political science. Any suggestions? If you need to ask me any questions that would you help give me advice, feel free...

I think most LAC's would allow you to do this easily. Vassar comes to mind, but there are many others with strengths here.

Sampling: Amherst, Bard, Macalester, Middlebury, Oberlin, Pomona, Skidmore, Vassar, Wesleyan, Williams.

For girls: Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Mt. Holyoke, Smith, Wellesley.

What about Yale ?

well if you want to go for the best of the best...
the top three theatre art program: Yale, NYU, UCLA.

With these three in mind, Yale has the strongest poli.sci. program, followed by UCLA. NYU isn't really well known for its social science department; it's more well known for their professional programs (Business, Theatre Art).

Re #4, if relevant, suggest check that this "best of best" handle pertains to undergrad BA programs, which could accomodate a dual major with poli sci. As opposed to graduate MFA programs, or BFA programs where double major with poli sci is essentially impossible; or possible only in the context of a 5 year double degree program which provides only a truncated BA program experience.

IIRC, some people feel that the places with the great MFA programs are actually WORSE for undegrads, because MFAs get all the parts, and prof attention. Been a while since I looked at this though. The CC "arts" majors sub-forum here may be a useful resource. The musical theater sub-forum has massive participation and may also be useful, though they have a particular slant.

Thank you for the replies ...

Just a little more info from me -- Right now I am applying to USC, NYU, Emerson, DePaul, and CMU for the B.F.A. programs (I am aware that in a BFA program you cannot double major and most schools don't even allow you to minor). If I decide to go this route I will give up on the double major/minor and just take a few elective credit classes...

My biggest problem right now is that I cannot get in to any of the top tier schools based completely off my academic record ... extenuating circumstances really messed up my high school experience. Any higher end school that doesn't base their decision largely or even partially on an audition is out of the question.

I have killer ECs a solid SAT score (have only taken it once with 0 prep work so I imagine i can add about 50 points to each of my scores when I take it next month). Does anybody know if there are any audition B.A. programs or LACs that would take my situation in high school, ECs, etc. into consideration and possibly outweigh my mediocre GPA?

How mediocre is mediocre? Are we talking "CC mediocre", which would be anything lower than a 3.5, or are we talking about 2.0?

You might want to look at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, which is highly regarded in performing arts (non-audition), and is more a "second tier" school. They have a holistic approach to admissions.

But until we know what your GPA really is, there's little we can do to advise you.

My GPA right now is a 3.2, but I have a definite upward trend with all As my Junior year (including all the college courses I took). I had something like a 2.2 from my freshman/sophomore years, but I took 9 classes second semester Junior year to help bump it back up.

My SAT right now is only 1930, but I honestly expect a 2100 when I take it next month.

bumpdizzle

you might want to look at depaul, its a conservatory, but the university has a pretty strong poli sci program. its a lot easier to get into than the top tier schools also.
