Policy Analysis and Management

Does anyone know anything about this major?? Can I actually benefit from it, or is it one of those majors that people tend to avoid??? Any information that anyone has would be greatly appreciated... The major seems to fit what I want to do very well, however Im not sure how good the actual major is. I want to go on to law school, by the way. Would this be a good major? or is there something else that could be better??

I don't really have any answers, but I applied to this as well, and have basically the same questions as you. Haha.

pam is great.

It's a great major, got to CUinfo to see the specific courses that come under the pam program. Keep in mind, the most successful law feeder program at cornell is the ILR program. 2/3 of graduates go onto law school.

thank you very much for the replies... You've really helped with my confidence towards the major, and I really appreciate that! As for the ILR program, I had looked into it, but it did not interest me as much as the PAM program. Thank you very much for the heads up on that though, vaib! I will take a second look at the ILR, and that you for your responses, everyone!

I had the same question.. I did not know if i wanted PAM or ILR... I applied to ILR at last though.. cuz it is so successful at sending people to law schools as mentioned above.

My sister is in PAM and loves it. Yes ILR sends a high percentage of students into law school but that's probably because most of them apply. PAM has several different career paths and a more flexible curriculum but you can defintely still get into law school from PAM.

It's really a question of where your interests lie, the two programs are completely different.

everhopeful- thank you for4 the personal insight! I like to hear personal accounts because they are very reassuring. I appreciate the insight!

Vaib- I agree, and that's why I had asked about PAM, because I knew that ILR was very successful, but I had more of an interest in PAM, I just wanted to hear people say that it was as good as it seemed.

Thank you both of you for the responses; it is very reassuring to hear people say that the major is actually a very good one.

I think another benefit is that because the PAM program is at the College of Human Ecology, you have increased flexibility with courses and major. If you decide the program is not quite right for you later on, you can switch to the other programs offered at the college. At ILR, you are pretty much locked into the ILR major.

Well, textiles isn't exactly my thing vaib, but I know what you mean :p haha

I think if I ended up not liking PAM I would probably try to transfer over to ILR, but I need to get to PAM before I can think of transfering out of it, lol. I'm just happy to be learning of these things now, before I send in any applications. This way I can feel more confident when I send in my application that I will absolutely love the major if I am accepted. I already know that I love the campus and the atmosphere in Ithaca, and in Cornell, now I'm figuring out what majors I will like to compliment the amazing atmosphere up in CornellWorld!

D was in similar situation last year. She is now a freshmen in ILR. When she first applied and did Part 1 of application,( I know they use Common App. now so it may be different) she listed Human Ecology-Undecided as she did not know if her interests were more Pam-Human develop. or another "major". She thought she wanted to study psychology so she was trying to find the right match for her. We visited the campus early in her senior year (she stayed overnight in the dorm through Red Carpet Society) and she went to the Info sessions at both Human Ec. and ILR. As ILR has coursework in Organizational Behavior as well as the other social sciences, she thought it may also meet her needs. Going to Info Sessions at BOTH ILR and Human Ec and talking directly with admissions staff from ILR and Human Ec. really helped her decide what school to apply to. ILR is a very "rigid" curriculum-but if it meets your interests then its great. Good luck!
