Polite way to turn down internship offer?

Hey everyone!

Okay, so far I have two internship interviews. If I get both, what's the best way to turn down one of them? I would love to do two internships, but since I'm doing work-study, it will be too much for me to handle. Thanks.

Being simple is the best way around this. Thank them for their time, tell them you like the company, but after a hard decision, you’ve decided to work for a job more suited towards your interest. Then sign it.

Turning down offers is always strange (and, let’s be honest, pretty awesome). When I turned down my first job offer (in favor of another), I was very straight forward - the competing offer fit my interests but was in a better location for me at this stage of my life. I made sure that I expressed my appreciation that they gave their time to interview me and to offer me the job, and in the time since then, they have reached out to me twice to let me know they were still thinking of me.

While you need to make decisions and walk through doorways, you don’t need to close any doors! If you decline an internship, perhaps you can do it at a different time! Just choose your words wisely :)
