Political Atmosphere (Too many rich republicans?)

Hey, i have a question about the politics at NU. My brother goes there, so I know how he stands, but his roommate for the first year was an evangelical from Pennsylvania who had interned for Senator Rick Santorum. NU has a rightful reputation for being full of many very wealthy people, so Im wondering if this causes the political atmosphere to skew more towards the right. We don't need to have a discussion about college professors being liberal, I already know that, but does NU have a lot of liberal student activism?

I would say Northwestern is pretty liberal. Illinois is a blue-state. Yes, Northwestern does have its conservative population. However, I would only say less than 1/4 of the student population is even conservative.

How is the acceptance of the gay community and can you have a coed dorm?

i'd like to make a quick note-(as a republican who is NOT rich)
there are republicans who are not rich eg rural/suburban wisconsin
there are democrats and people so liberal that they surpass being a democrat that are incredibly rich, eg east coast. And they are just as snobby, if not more, because while rich republicans look out for themselves, and rich liberals look out for trees and caribou. and then they think they are better than everyone else for it. just remember there are two sides to every story.

sorry i am not as tactful as you, thecity

Wow...packrbackr...yet another reason not to go to NU. Scary generalizations...

if packrbackr was my roommate, NU's suicide rate would go up.

i am extremely liberal (as in so extreme, i wouldn't fit in with the democratic party), but i really don't think we need to bash packrbackr (or commit suicide) over his generalizations.

packrbackr: i disagree that wealthy democrats are more snobby because they think that things other than humans have inherent value and rights as well. that shows a bit of disrespect for the very planet that is responsible for your existence.

when making arguments, y'all, let's try to at least stay civil and rational instead of making jokes about suicides which aren't a laughing matter...

i laughed.
