I just visited W&M a few days ago and loved it. One thing I didn't get an idea about from the tour, however, were the political leanings of W&M. I know that it's a Virginia public school, but is it that conservative? I'm fairly liberal so this is something I would want to consider before I eventually apply, but I am still open to other ideas.

WM is actually considered to be more liberal than conservative; however, I personally would describe it as being more moderate/liberal moderate.

if it's moderate/liberal moderate then it will certainly seem to be more conservative than quite a few universities

It's liberal for a southern school, but seems pretty conservative from a northern perspective (I would know). Most kids are open-minded however.

Young Democrats and College Republicans are both active groups.

The campus population does, as a whole, lean left. Also, this is the most important thing, which Mightymeals mentioned, that W&M students are generally quite open minded. There's no "eww you're conservative" or "eww your republican".

Two words:

"Moderately liberal" or if you prefer "Leans Democratic"
