How are they? Anybody majoring in the above??

I was majoring in PS and Philosophy but I changed PS to Anthropology sophomore year...What is it you'd like to know?

Is there a required thesis for the majors? How difficult is it to double major at a school at a calibre of JHU? Hmmm...those are the only two that I can think of for now but anything else in general or what you like/dislike about your experience with the above will do too.

No required thesis...of course, except for honors. Double majoring is usually not a problem, especially if the subjects compliment each other...for example, matching a hard science with a social science or humanities can work out well for distribution etc. Also some majors have less requirements than others, in which case its easier to double up on them. All that information is available on the departments' individual sites as well as the admissions site.

As for my personal experience, I think the PS and philosophy departments are both great...for me, I'm much happier in anthropology, mostly because of my research interests but also because I love the faculty and the smaller size. There are a lot of very popular (and deservingly so) professors in the PS department, such as Steven David and Daniel Deudney who are both excellent.

The Philo. department is a little diverse, which is good, but I think you will find some of the faculty suit you better than others, at least personalities wise. Interest wise, if you are interested in political philosophy (I'm assuming, but tell me if I'm wrong) Dean Moyar does a lot of that, and on the ethics side Mark Jenkins is usually pretty popular with students and has a very unique style.

Hope some of that helps!

Wow excellent, thank you so much for your response :-). I am interested in world/comparative politics as well as political philosophy. Let's see what happens when next March comes around :)

I think I saw somewhere you were planning on transferring? We could also use more people in the department so best of luck and feel to Pm if you have more questions!

I've taken one class (yes only one) in the Philosophy department, and it was probably the best course I've taken here thus far--perhaps with the exception of Calc III. The course was Formal Logic with Achinstein. He's a Philosopher in the History of Science and is just a really cool guy.

Thank you Andrew, I will definitely do that. :) So far so good

I don't know Jackie M personally, but Julie P. happens also to be a really nice, enthusiastic and helpful person so I'm sure she'd be a great help
