Political Science and Theater

I'm considering both political science and theater in my college search. I'm not sure whether i'll double major or minor in theater...but i do know what I need to find a school that is good for both. I live in PA, under an hour from Pittsburgh and I'm looking for schools kinda in the area. I'm really interested in Point Park and know that they have a good theater program, can anybody tell me about the Poli-Sci there? Any other information on regional schools would be appreciated...thank you in advance

bump...anybody out there?

UCLA
Northwestern
NYU
Syracuse
Boston U

What do you mean by regional? Is regional anywhere within a 300 mile radius? And do you have any credentials to share with us?

The obvious choice for somebody who wants to mix theater with Political Science is Yale. I don't like New Haven, but they are top 5 in both those fields of study. But Yale is a good 7 hour drive from your part of the country...so it is hardly regional, but then again, 7 hours is not that bad.

Another great choice is the University of Michigan. Michigan has a good Political Science department (top 3 nationally) and a decent Theater program (top 25 nationally) and it is not too far from Pittsburgh. In fact, Pittsburgh and Ann Arbor are separated by a mere hole in the world called Ohio! hehe But seriously, if you consider a 300 mile, 4 hour drive too far, clearly Michigan isn't good. However, if you think that's acceptable, definitely check out Michigan.

NYU is also very good in both Political Science (top 20 nationally) and Theater (top 10 nationally). NYU is a good 6 hour drive from Pittsburgh, so it is not that extreme.

Northwestern University is excellent in Theater (top 5 nationally) and is also decent in Political Science (top 20 nationally). However, Chicago is a good 7 hour drive from Pittsburgh, so that may be a little too far.

Also check out Cornell University. I think Ithaca is about a 6 hour drive from Pittsburgh, so again, it is not quite "regional", but it is certainly not too bad. I believe there are straight flights from Pittsburgh to Ithaca...at least, there were flights between those two cities back in my day.

Carnegie Mellon is right next door to you. CMU has a top 5 Theater department, but its Political Science department is rather limited. In fact, I don't even think CMU has an offical Political Science department. I think theirs is called the Department of Social and Decision Sciences! LOL However, Economics at CMU is very strong.

Indiana University-Bloomington. I love this school. Stunning campus, fun and friendly student body, quaint and intellectual little town and great academics. Too bad about their football team! hehe Seriously, Indiana is top 10 in Theater and top 25 in Political Science. This could be a good safety/match for you, depending on your grades. IU is roughly 400 miles or slightly under 6 hours drive from Pittsburgh.

Muhlenberg's right in your neck of the woods, too (Allentown), and has an excellent theater program. As a liberal arts school, it also has poli sci.

Oberlin College is 2-1/2 hours from Pittsburgh.

Whether it meets your needs otherwise, and vica versa, I have no idea, but its Politics department is good and its theater department is reputed to be good as well.

anybody have information one these programs and Georgetown and American in Washington DC? i would assume theyre both good for politics but i dont know about theater...as for whoever asked for credentials im about 10th in my class of about 120. I finished our second quarter with a 96% average, im not sure how it translates on the 4.0 scale but its somewhere about 3.6 i think. im a junior and am taking AP Calculus, im taking AP US history as well, and took AP world last year, i plan on taking AP english next year. i took my SATs in december and scored a 590 in reading, 600 in math and 660 on the writing(too bad that score wont be considered). My main concern right now in finding a theater school is the audition. I ruled out musical theater because i know a lot of schools place a lot of focus on the dancing, and im definelty not a dancer. I know many schools offer a theater minor so it made sense to persue that. Im involved with stuff at school and since making my decision to continue theater in college i decided i need to get involved in some more stuff outside school, so i will be doing that this summer. Another question...after receiving my SAT scores, Point Park replied that i will most likely qualify for one of their merit scholarships..is this good to hear? Thanks everybody

i have a friend at wesleyan in ct who is studying political science and theater.

american is good for politics and they also have a thriving performing arts community which i'm sure extends to, or stems from, the majors. i'm not sure about georgetown.
