Political science as a major?

My kids were both poli sci majors and both got jobs immediately after graduation from college. Pay wasn’t great – roughly $35K + benefits (this is going back a few years - DD graduated in 2010) – but they had good jobs that fit their interests. Both kids eventually went back for MPA degrees. My son currently has a government job, my daughter is currently employed in a capacity that has nothing at all to do with her major - but, somewhat ironically, does depend on her nonexistent math skills.(She’s doing financial management).

Nothing wrong with a poli sci degree. It’s flexible. A lot of options.

The adviser’s reasoning seems off. If your daughter likes math and is good at math, but worries about jobs, she can major in applied math, statistics, data science, business analytics… or a combination thereof. Those majors have excellent job prospects.
