Hi all I’m trying to see if NEU is a good fit for me.
I visited last year and really loved the focus on co-ops and study abroad programs
However it seems to be primarily a STEM oriented school
How’s the political science/international relations program there? Are the students in that program provided with good co-op opportunities?
Also is there really any attention given to undergraduate research?
Thanks guys, really appreciate the help
I’m not a PolySci major but I can speak a bit generally here.
For those interested in politics, DC is a common co-op landing spot for co-op. We actually have co-op housing in DC so some students can actually get university housing while working there. It’s one of four cities it’s offered in along with NYC, San Francisco, and Chicago. Of course, co-ops in other cities have resources as well. Check out the map on this page to see all the cities there are resources for.

I don’t have a good sampling of co-op’s from PolySci, but I know people have worked on campaigns in DC and in Mass (one person I know worked for Elizabeth Warren). There are some examples at the bottom of the page below too. DC is explicitly mentioned as a spot people end up working in.

While Northeastern does tend toward STEM and Business, the International Relations / Business here is very strong, drawing I’m sure from both the strength of the business school and the global opportunities the university has in addition to the academics. The political science program is one of the more common subjects outside of STEM anecdotally.
Hope that helps! I’d be happy to answer any more general questions as well.
