Hi everyone - I recently was accepted as a transfer to UF from an out of state university. I will be a junior. I would like to hear from current or former students (especially political science majors like myself) about the poli sci program there. How are the classes, professors, general academic environment? What was the general workload like? Are there resources to succeed? Are you glad you picked UF? I'm trying to decide between UF and FSU (and maybe UCF). Its a really hard choice at the moment. Thanks in advance :)

I am a political science double major at UF and can tell you that we have a great program and a lot of really fascinating professors. Of course, there are also some not-so-great teachers, but that is to be expected at any university. The workload will of course vary class by class. Some professors like Dr. Nolan don’t give too much work outside a few take home assignments, while people like Stafford give 40 page papers. Overall, I am really glad I chose UF, there are many opportunities to get involved and many people willing to help you succeed.

I would say you are looking at 20 pages of writing per class (like onedove said it does depend on the teacher, but that is a good benchmark). I would avoid Stafford at all costs lol. I would say that overall the political science program is pretty good, but you can’t really judge undergrad programs too much because there isn’t too much difference between UF, FSU, etc. If you plan on going to law school or something outside of political science I don’t see any reason to focus too much on “how great” a specific major is since they won’t care at the next level.

Thank you !!
