Political Science & Government Competitons/Awards

You guys know of any debate, mock trial, model un, national.........olympiad that are related to politics. any ideas will help. I am more interested in learning about awards for government and politics. For instance, u have Intel Science Search, what do political buffs have?

There used to be a national Citizen Bee, but they lost their national sponsor, so now it is only individual state competition. It covers geography, current events, government, history and economics. Our State Bar Assn. is the TX sponsor. Perhaps you could call there (in Austin, TX) and get info about your state's competition. Our state gives scholarship $ for the top 3 winners.

From my experience, with debate, most International Tournaments for Highschool are associated with politics in one way or another. I guess the equivalent of ISS for debate would be the World Schools Debate Championship, which is attended every year by almost all English-speaking countries and others. Check out www.wsdc.org!
In my opinion, the people who win the WSDC are truly amazing, and should be treated likewise by any admission officer who is aware of debate championships.

Look into the program at http://www.presidentialclassroom.org/ my younger daughter will be attending one of the programs this summer. She has been working on her debate topics for months. You also might be interested in looking at the Congressional Award www.congressionalaward.org My older D received her Gold Medal last year and my younger D will receive hers next year. After going through the college application process this year it is evident that awards like the one from Congress can have an impact on your application to colleges and for scholarships
