Political Science / History Major - Question?

I have been accepted to Penn (CAS). I have been thinking about my major.

Can anyone offer me any info regarding political science, which I am mostly focusing on, or maybe even history? Difficulty? Amount of reading? Etc.

Thanks!

Don’t burden yourself with so much. Go and explore. Try things out. You don’t have to decide for about another 2 years.

^ I always hated answers like that my freshman year.

Difficulty? Depends on what you mean. Harder than hard sciences or engineering? No. Harder than communications or international relations? Yes.

Amount of reading? An incredible amount, but I guess you wouldn’t be interested in it if you didn’t know that. As with any of the social sciences, they are a lot more reading intensive. Don’t be surprised when many books are assigned for you to read completely for a given class in a semester. Just a gauge for you to measure with: Intro to Sociology assigns about 4 or 5 books to read in their entirety, with about two journal articles (10-20 pages) per week. And remember, that’s Sociology! Gonna be worse for PolySci and History.

@notpennstate‌ - Could you elaborate more on International Relations? Is it known to be an easier major? In your opinion, it is easier than PoliSci?

Thanks so much for the info in advance!

Yeah in my experience, I’ve found it’s considered to be an easier major (haven’t taken an IR class, so can’t give you a better answer than that). Also, I know a few IR majors and I literally just see them sit at home and watch movies while everyone else studies lol.
