Ok.. Im looking to go into international relations when I graduate college and I prefer to work for the UN. I wanted to go all the way through college and attain my PHD before i started to work. My main issue is i want an international relations job that wont require me to live in another country. Any suggestions as to what occupations i should look for?

Realistically, do you REALLY see yourself going all the way to a PhD? Because the vast majority of peopel who say they will get one or start a PhD program never complete it.

yeah i really do. Its a personal goal that i seriously want to accomplish.

Think Tanks in DC/NY area? Office work within the State Department? There are a myriad of agencies/companies/organizations that want IR/Poli Sci people for various reasons. Both are so broad that backgrounds in them can practically be applied to occupations that you’ve never considered.

You can also go into law school, like I plan to do with a possible major/master/(possibly Ph.D in International Law) in IR, and have even more career openings.

Getting hired by the State Dept. is super competitive. It’s one of the hardest agencies to get into right after the FBI and CIA.

^True.

And you can also go into teaching, specifically professor status with a Ph.D
