I'm going to be starting at WFU in the fall and I think I want to major in political science. Is this considered one of the harder majors at Wake? What type of grad schools do Wake political science majors end up at? I'd love your input

I wouldn't say it is one of the harder majors. None of the majors are easy, but political science certainly isn't one of the most brutal ones. There are a lot of political science professors, and talking to my friends in the major there are some professors that are relatively easy. Most of the kids I know doing political science want to go to law school or do something in international relations. If you are looking to go into business/medicine/law Wake seems pretty good about helping you plan everything out.

Has your friend shed any light on the diversity of PS profs and their views?

In general they say the department is relatively moderate, and unlike Chapel Hill you don't have people shoving their views down your throats. I think the most "conservative" is professor Brister, but it is just the nature of academics to lean more liberal.

While I am fairly liberal, I do like that Wake's professors are probably more middle of the road in general than most, or at least they are not overtly left or right leaning.

you mentioned that there are certainly a few relatively easy professors in the political science department at Wake, would you mind sharing who they are? I am going to Wake this Fall and will be a poli sci major, so I’d really like to get to know more about the profs in the department before I begin registering for classes.
Thanks!

Easy is just a fluid concept, and it is more in the vein that they teach really interesting classes (ie: Dr. Brister teaches a Terrorism class). However, many political science classes–especially the non-100-level classes are insane to get into if you don’t have priority (major) registration.

So if you declare a major you get priority registration for those classes? How does that work for business, where you don’t get in for 2 years?

Business/Finance/Accounting are separate registration from everyone else so it is no problem.

Wait…Business/Finance/Accounting is a different school? What does that mean? How does it work?

Can anyone recommend good polysci teachers at wake?

thanks
